ATREANO - TASTE?

Dan, I wouldn't jump to conclusions so fast. Atreano is my fastest growing trees! One Green World is in the PNW and they're closer to you than you think. Oh, and they grow and sell Atreano for only $16.95. Here is their website: https://www.onegreenworld.com/Fig/346/

Just give them a call and talk to the owner.

Dennis...

Interesting comments about "Atreano"-Belleclare and "Atreano-Gold".  My "A-G" makes figs, when ripe, that have skins the color of bananas...actually, golden-yellow.  A very respected fig grower mentioned that there are some bogus versions of this variety that originated out on the West Coast, and they are NOT the same as the original "Atreano".

Frank

Frank, I had the same thought. I wonder if the Atreano from One Green World can actually be traced directly back to Belleclare. I believe there is only one true Atreano, from Belleclare. I'd love to do a side by side comparison to theirs.

Scot...

Having only grown "Atreano/Atreano-Gold" which was bought at Zaino's, who is supposed to have grown their stock from Belleclare's wood, I can only speculate about bogus "Atreano" varieties.  But my source is unimpeachable.  I also have my doubts.

Frank

Atreano is an excellent fig for me in VA zone 7. As Scott says -- it needs to be allowed to ripen fully -- but if it is it's a great fig.

The Atreano I have is from Jon. 'Atreano RR'. Hope it's the original.

Jon & Gina, you are both welcome to my Belleclare Atreano cuttings for comparison if you'd like. Just pm or email me. I'd be happy to send you some

A very good fig if overripe.

I have the RR too. It sure is vigorous. 2nd year with it and it completely leafed out early and formed med sized figs so far, not yet ripe. Hope to beat out the critters to try one. Wonder how it compares to the golden and the OR.
