Wow, that is impressive.

Looks amazing! Very nice eating at Herman's house this summer and fall. Is that its SWC next to it on the right? :-)

The big purple one has a thick skin, but it is light and airy on the inside ;-)

LOL  Bob, you made me go back and look. That big purple might taste rubbery

I love it! Lie on the hammock, reach up, grab a fig, enjoy! It's good to be you Herman!

Fabulous tree Herman! I'm waiting on my first fig on my Atreano gold to ripen .

I had to go back and look too Bob !! heheh

Nice tree. Do you cut it low and cover it for winter? Or does it stand up to the weather?

Beautiful tree!

Herman, it's great that a relatively large, tasty fig is getting ripe by Aug. 23 in NJ!  Is this a variety that needs full sun (or nearly full sun) to ripen or do you think 6 hours full sun would be enough?  It does sound like a robust grower that will take up some space.  I have a first year plant in a 5 gallon container and am thinking of putting it in the ground next year.

Rewton:No fig of mine is in full sun, because,of the large pine trees my neighbours have in their yards.
The best they can get is 8 to 9 hours.
Atreano is in the most favorable position, but no fig in nj,will dislike full sun,all day.
jn fact they need it to dry fast after rain, and not spoil.
6 hours of sun is not enough,so ,do your best.
Keep the tree with no more than three trunks, and hope for best.
This fig is not covered anymore for the last three years.
EDIT NOTE:

By the way:Yes we had 2 delicious fruits today, and we had 30 Atreano, Breba fruits ripe started July 10!.

Looks like you have all right there in your back yard. La bella vita.

Very nice!!!

Herman, forum members:

Growing Atreano planted in the ground and planted in a large container are two different things.  I have been growing Atreano, since 2007 in a large, 25-gallon tub.  Because of our short-season, and your recommendations, I have always nipped off all breba, and pinched back new growth to 5-7 leaves, so that main-crop figs will have a better chance of ripening before the cool nights shut things down.  My trees get full-sun, all day.

Question:
Given my growing conditions, do you think I could/should chance letting a breba crop ripen, even though I grow in containers, or, do you think I should just grow ONLY main-crop figs?

Thanks.

Frank

What's to lose by trying?

I think,if you have full sun,you can ripe both crop,in container, but the tree will need a perfect supply of nutrients, because it needs more energy to grow 2 crops instead of one.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Next year, two crops.  Double my pleasure.

Frank

I'm definitely going to have to get an Atreano. Great tree, Herman!
