Auto Water timers

Good day, I know several of you use water timers.  I had a thread written by Sal on water timers but I can't locate it.  So, does any of you guys and gals use water timers to water your fig trees?  I'm getting ready to install a drip irrigation system next week and I need to purchase all my parts now.  I've read comments about some water timers on Amazon and I'm still not sure what's a good deal or not.  I know some people have a hard time getting things to work and one bad comment could ruin a super product.

So, I want is a auto water timer that will turn on and off by itself at a designated day and time.  Any recommendations?

Also, if you use a 1gal emitter dripper, how often do you water your trees?  Daily?  Every other day?  I'm in the piedmont of North Carolina.  We aready had 80 degree temps and I have to water my in ground trees about every 5 days unless it rains.  And I water my container trees every 3 days.  I know these times will change in June when temps get up to the 90s so I am planning now before that happens.  All comments welcomed.  cheers,

YEAP!  That's the one Jason!  thanks!

I have a hose-end cell phone. I set the timer on the cell phone for the amount of time I want, turn the water on, and then, when the cell phone rings, I go turn the water off.

Dennis,
I use this one only because it was convenient to buy at my local store:

The customer reviews point out it must be brought inside in the coldest part of winter.  That is the only time mine ever broke when I left it out.  Otherwise it has worked perfect for years.  Do pay attention to your GPM requirement.  Mine is operating a drip system in my veggie garden that needs at least 5.5 gpm.  Timer is very flexible but the manual system only goes for 30 minutes.

Dennis,

I have the same unit - Dig 9001DB - that Sal posted. I have owned it since 2008.

Good unit. My only issue occurred about 18 months ago. After realizing that I needed to replace the battery, I noticed that the plastic clip/hinge on the battery door was broken. While replacing the battery, I saw that the terminal (+/-) connector was rusted due to water entry from the broken battery door. After a few bucks, new connector, wire splicing, and super glue, I haven't had any more problems with it.
