Avoiding damage to fig Breba crop

Temperatures will be falling soon close to freezing and then below freezing. Normally the plants are left outside to start the dormancy state. I have read that if the plants are left too long for the temperatures to fall “too low then there is a risk of damaging the buds for the next year Breba crop. I can understand that it may depend upon the fig variety but is there a rule of thumb as to what is “too low” temperature? What is the temperature that the plants should not be exposed to in order to avoid damage to the Breba crop and the potted plants should be taken inside for safety in Zones 5 or 6. I checked almost all the threads but could not find such info.

Personally i am not interested in Breba crop from other than King, variety, but if i was you i would move the tree inside after the first anounced freez,in your area when you see most of the trees shedding their leaves suddenly.Lowest winter temp, doesn't come at once, but start first with,30"F,then,25 then 10F,and so on.Take care.

Thanks, Herman2.

If I recall one of your earlier post on another forum, you mentioned type 1 type early figs with Breba as the main crop (such as Desert King, Gentile, Dauphine, St. John, Gillete) needs to be brought in earlier to protect their main crop which is Breba. This was the reason for my question to know the timing for protection. Being a novice in fig growing and being in Zone 5, I should pay attention to these details to have some ripe figs from type1 type before before my type 2 figs with early main crop get matured to have some main crop ripe figs.

Pardon my ignorance.

You mentioned to bring the plants in as soon as the leaves on other trees starts falling. What if my fig plants are still fresh with strong green leaves at that time? Should I bring it to the garage for the leaves to fall so I will that the plant is dormant now and then take it to a cool dark place inside the home because the unheated garage can experience the worse of Zone 5.

BTW, is the King fig the same as the Desert King?

Yes King is Desert King.
I did not call for that precaution,as to bring it inside before leaf fall.
I would say bring it inside as soon as leaves have fallen.(King Variety).

It is clear to me now.
Thanks for these answers and for sharing your knowledge with us all in your posts.
