BÊBERA PRETA

Had promised to show this Bêbera Preta fig (Black Bebera), which is not in my collection

It is an average to large size Common fig, dark/bluish, sweet and flavored but not spectacular

Has many names, depending on the regions the trees are located.
In full contrast with her sister  'white bebera' the pulp is not much juicy and never gets that appealing red colors.

Thanks for sharing very nice photos and your honest thoughts on this fig!

I had trouble accessing this post of yours and saw you posted twice.  I ending up playing around, ignoring the goofy URL generated by the forum, and used the thread ID and went to http://www.figs4funforum.websitetoolbox.com/post?id=6507083 I'm hoping that maybe my post will unlock the crazy spell on your post.

Hi Harvey, Thank you very much for resuscitating my post !!

I think I did everything as usual but the system rejected it without any apparent reason--

For a while thought of some wrong doing from my side and repeat the topic dispatch to no avail..

May be I touched some key which was there to be in peace!!--not touched

On the Black beberas, are you familiar with this fig ?

It's not bad at all but...we may not like ALL figs..

LOL, I don't know that I did anything to fix it but I was the first to view your post and respond since I was more persistent.  I tried clicking on the link to your post after I made my reply and it still did not work so I think it was just a temporary glitch in the forum software.  Yesterday when I was trying to view old threads I had bookmarked those URLs also did not work so I had to search for a cached copy and then find the thread ID as above.  I don't understand the reason(s) for the coding changes over the past few years, it just makes it more complicated.

I have no personal experience with this fig other than reading about it here.  It is probably here now somewhere since some folks have bought it on eBay from the Madeira seller .... unless USDA has seized them all!

Thanks Harvey,

I still cannot open the topic from the topic list.... Got it open now from the link given on the advanced notice from encanto on the email address..

Never mind..

As regards to the Beberas Pretas, I see them being sold in local markets under a different name...popular lack of precise pronunciations lead some people to call it ...'BEBEDA PRETA' which in a direct translation into english is :--- 'DRUNKEN BLACK' !? Also the fig is much much bigger , sometimes shaped like a horse or donkey foot...much asymmetric.. The Madeira's Bêbera again I think is another variant or even a totally distinct fig.  May be Nelson could bring some light to these Bêberas, as I believe he has some in his collection

Hi Francisco, it does look different than the bêbera preta I'm familiar with from Madeira I'm hoping mine will ripen soon ill post pics.

Thanks Nelson, now I am curious..

Francisco I emailed you a picture of immature fruit my photobucket is not working and my Flickr is not giving me links to upload.

I have 2 bêbera preta plants from Madeira both have fruit this year I hope both ripen and I'll post pics of fruit and leaves.

Thank you Nelson,  NICE COLLECTION - Congratulations!

I believe we are talking of the same cultivar, only after yours are ripe a full comparison is possible.

This BebPreta does not show on that Madeira update, but from what I heard it is still much present on some particular areas.
