Baby Fig Leaf

I understand that baby fig leaves can't be used to identify the type of fig. BUT, out of all the baby fig leaves on any of my cuttings, none of them have looked like this one. These cuttings came from an unknown tree in Arkansas that my mom brought back for me from visiting my grandma.

Its funny, I just stuck them all in a pot outside and pretty much forgot about them. I've only watered them twice. Oh the mystery of what it is!!

At least it looks healthy. Baby leaves come in all shapes.

Thanks Sas. I was so excited to have a different looking leaf!

How did you fare with last night's storms? We had a couple of downed trees & a lot of broken limbs laying around. One tree was already dead but it fell less than 6 feet from my fig trees that are in 5gal buckets. I was real surprised that none of the buckets fell over. I had just put bamboo stakes in them, but hadn't tied them to it yet & none of them had any damage. That was luck!

Hi jenn42,
Whatever the strain the first leaves of a bud are almost useless to identify the strain.
I have several "Dalmatie" trees and they are all daughters of the same tree - and even like that with both eyes opened you can't tell they are of the same strain;
if you blink, sort of you can get it ... :)
That leaf id beautiful . Do you know more abut the strain ? Does she produce edible fruits ?
I've got a strain that showed brebas for the second year, and like last year they all shriveled.
I've got a daughter from that tree, that I pinched crazy yesterday ... I'm out of patience on that strain !

I totally understand about the baby leaves. I thought it was pretty and unusual because all the other baby leaves of other fig cuttings have all started out looking the same.

For now, it is an unknown. Here's the kind of confusing story. It came from my grandmother's friend's late husband's tree. The mother tree is about 15-20 yrs old according to Lucy (grandmother's friend). She knows nothing about figs but wanted the tree to live on in case something happens to her. So while my mom was visiting my grandmother, she took some branches and brought them to me. I actually didn't think any of them would grow because the branches seemed "weird" when I was trimming them, kind of hollow or damaged in some way. But I thought I could just stick them in a pot & see if they grow, no biggie.

To my surprise, there are several that are sprouting leaves. I gave them a little tug & it seems as though they have roots! I wish Lucy knew what kind they were, but she doesn't. I just know my grandmother said they were really good! So here's hoping they can flourish and I can one day find out what variety they really are =)
