Baby fig or baby branch

Got some post-pinch bumps on the stem above the leaf nodes.

Now, all of these so far have turned into branches, but I was wondering how soon can you tell whether it's a fig-bump or a branch-bump? In my inexperience I look for the start of a baby leaf to appear by which time the bump is quite large. Are there any earlier signs I could look for?

Could wait to find out, but I'm impatient!

Hard to say when it is still just a bump, wait a week and you should be able to tell.

Generally leaf buds form from the tip down and fruit buds start from the beginning of the new growth up.

I believe that fig bumps are round and get more round while branches start slightly pointed and get more pointed.  At the "bump" stage, its very hard to tell.

Thanks for the replies. It looks like a few of them are forming a 'horn' which I'll assume to be the protective cover for new leaves (hence a branch), but some look as though they're remaining rounded which looks promising. I want more than my current 2 breba this year!
