Barnissotte Ripe Fig Photos

Here is a fig from my Barnissotte tree that was started as a cutting from UC Davis back in 2010.  The tree is still small.  This might be the only fig that it will ripen this year since it has dropped all the others so far except for a couple that are still small.

The flavor was sweet and figgy.  It was a very nice fig.

This is what the fruit looked like.  I expected it to look different on the inside, but it could just be how the fig looks in my climate or it could be because the tree is still young.

That looks pretty normal for Barnisotte. Would be a little more "Jammy" here. Mine dropped several small fruit this year, too. Has never done that before. I was attributing it to the very up and down temps we have had. Two weeks ago in the high 70s, the lat two week in the mid 90s.

Thanks for the info Jon.  That's good to know.

Herman posted back in 2007 about this fig.  He said that it dropped most of it's fruit for him too.  I'm wondering if this one is only partially parthenocarpic?  Here's the link to Herman's old post:  http://figs4funforum.websitetoolbox.com/post/Barnisotte-and-Beall-from-UC-Davis-Finally-are-fruitting-2166089?highlight=barnisotte

Yews it dropped in 2007,but in 2008 or 2009,one of those years ,it had a dozen main crop and it did not drop any, soo,it was because of being too young in 2007.
But every year it dropped all Breba,so that was the results.
A very good fig if it was ,a healthy cultivar ,but is not.
Mine finally died, a few years back due to Fig mosaic virus.

I stated three from cuttings from UCD in2010 also.  This is the strongest one.  I just found it dropped a fig today but in the last couple of weeks really started produceing a second crop quickly.  I just broke off some of the smaller ones.  Hopefully there is still time.  Its 68 F with overcast today.

Herman, that is good to know.  Hopefully as the tree matures it will stop dropping figs.  My tree shows signs of FMV but as it gets bigger it looks more and more healthy.  I hope that it will grow into a good tree here in Arizona.

TMC, your tree is nice.  Hope you get to taste some of those figs this year.

Joe, in the second large photo, it looks to me like another eye staring
back at me just above the fig's eye. That is a pretty tree, but the fig itself
beauty only seems to be skin deep. I have Barnosotte from UCD 2010
also with FMV but no figs yet.

I see what you're talking about in that photo.  I think that the fig got bitten by something as it was ripening.  It didn't affect the flavor though.

I agree that Barnissotte is a pretty tree.  The foliage is a healthy green color and the leaves have a unique shape.  The fig isn't so pretty but it tasted good.

Thought I'd post a few more photos this morning of Barnissotte.

Here is what the leaves look like:

Here is another fig starting to turn color and swell up:

Here is the next crop of figs growing:

Here are photos of some Barnissotte figs from today.  The two ripe ones are on the small side for this variety.  The Frankenfig is on the large side.  Most are somewhere in between in size. This fig is excellent in quality.  The tree is not too healthy and it drops a lot of figs.  The ones that stay on and ripen are delicious.  The weather has been warm this November and the tree is ripening a nice second main crop.
