Baskinta Purple 10-3-13

You are certainly not alone as far as "Merlot-type" moments.

thanks Mike

This one looks great guys. Does it remind anyone else just a little bit of Brunswick, Haikel Leb, my Leb Unk, and Bass's new find? Some of the pics of it in mid ripening stage remind me of these. The leaves, fruit exterior and interior--look kind of similar but not quite the same. I wonder if it's another good Lebanese strain in this family of figs. This "family" of figs can taste very awesome. I'm sure this one tastes as good as it looks. Great find guys.

P,
I can't address the BB very well as mine is an air layer yet be be sent.

I can address the Purple, however, and have done so on this forum a couple times already as I think it's a serious contender for fig of the year -- in my collection at least.

I have no idea what Bass's new find is but BP definitely does not bring Brunswick to mind or the Red Lebanese Bass sells. I've not tried a Haikel Led nor do I know what your Led unknown is like.

THe BP I grew in a 7 gallon pot in zone 7 in Virginia tasted unlike any fig I had to compare it with. I had 70 varieties properly ripen figs this year and the BP stood out as unique in it's flavor profile. It tasted strongly of cane sugar and reminded me of the days when I had a piece of sugar can to occupy my sweet tooth. There were other flavors involved but overwhelmingly my BP's were sweet in a way that was unique.

I'm not sure how many folks would appreciate this fig as it seems it would be pretty polarizing, If there are so many people who don't like light figs, for example, I can see the flavor of this fig being a "love it or hate it" kind of reaction. Great jelly beans vs great chocolate truffles or some other more articulate comparison. Or maybe a matter of "being in the mood". As for me I love the flavor and will ad several more several more to my collection.

P, knowing your taste in figs, I think this ones a "must have" for you.

It looks amazing and has stand out flavor what else could you want? Definitely a must-have for me. I think I would like em a lot.

Check out photos below when you have a chance. I fell in love with my unk leb this year--it's tied for my #1 for me and actually has taken the rain quite well the last 3 seasons unlike most Brunswick variants. My leb unk did spot up and look like the photos on this thread but I don't have any of the spotted up figs in the photos below I don't think. The BP leaves and fruit reminded me *a little* of these and I'd be interested in comparisons next couple seasons but if I had to guess I'd say BP and my leb unk are different, as is Bass's. All look of em look awesome.
