Bass mystery fig #1

Bass, here is one of the mystery figs I got from you late last Fall. Any idea what it is?

thanks,

Bass, here's the inside. Very sweet.

Dennis,
I'm really not sure, we know it's not a Ronde de Bordeaux or Black Madeira. It seems similar to black bethlehem, Sal's, dark portuguese, or similar type figs... Could even be a spanish fig.

Bass, I think its either Dark Portuguese or Sal's. Will know more next year.

thanks,

Looks good no matter what it is.  =)  Thanks for sharing the pics.

Looks good dennis how did they taste?
I also have a mystery fig from bass hopefully next year it'll fruit.

Dennis, congratulations on being able to post photos again!  Nice looking fig.

Dennis:

The leaf in the above photo....if it's a typical leaf....doesn't resemble the leaves on "Dark Portuguese"....which are more deeply cut, and have more lobes....lika a "Hardy Chicago"

Just my $0.02, and, just speculation....guessing.

Frank

You're right frank the leaf I'm not familiar with, but it could be the leaf shapes are not consistent.

The taste was very good but it did not have that big "POW" of a punch in flavor like a Sal's or Dark Port.  But again this is a very young plant with only 10 leaves on it.  So you guys think it might be a Hardy Chicago?  Hmmmm.  It could be.  Time will tell.  In my climate Hardy Chicago ripens first, then Sal's then Dark Portuguese.  I've got one large HC in my orchard and several in pots.  A gardener just can't go wrong with either a Hardy Chicago, Sal's or Dark Portuguese.  I like all 3.  I think for now I'll call it Sal's Hardy Dark Chicago Portuguese until the jury is out.  :)

Dennis:

The "Dark Portuguese" fig has leaves with a similar shape/style, as "Hardy Chicago"....  Your fig is still unidentified.  The jury is still out.
