Battaglia Green Breba

My Battaglia Green is a 2 year old tree.  It gave me 2 breba this year but no main fruit. Maybe next year.  This is the second breba with a small eye opening and could have use another day on.  It was sweet with a slight hint of berry and thin skin.  We noticed that the skin was as sweet as the meat.  The coin is a silver dollar. Thanks for looking.

I think it looks pretty darn nice, good size, it should improve next year and hopefully you will get that main crop.

Thanks, waynea! I hope so, I hear the main crop is very berry and is amazing, so can't wait.

Thanks for sharing your beautiful breba!

Now that's a dang good looking Fig! Hopefully you will get many more as time goes by! :)

Thanks everyone! And Pete, the coin is my hubby and he would be upset if I sold it! Even at the great return you are offering! ;)

LOL! I should've looked! Yes, it is a dollar piece and would be in more trouble then I'm in for all the figs craziness!

twovkay, I live not far from you and coincidentally also have a Battaglia Green that is about 2 years old (cuttings actually rooted Sept. of 2012).  I haven't gotten any brebas but pruned mine quite a bit in February.  I also gave up on mine giving a main crop.  Then a week or two ago I saw the first tiny fig.  Now nearly every node of some branches have figs developing!  I'll be surprised if there is enough time for them to ripen though.  I wonder if part of the reason B.G. is a late fruiting variety is because it waits so long before setting fruit or is it because the development time of the figs themselves is so long?

Steve,

I don't know, since I'm new to figs and just acquire this tree last year. I have heard that the onset of Breba will delay the main fruit, whether that means delay in ripening main fruit or delay in formation of fruit? Not sure, but I thought I had some figlets developing a few days ago, they turn out to be leaf nodes. My tree is about 5 ft tall with a side branch in a 5 gallon pot. I've seen a battaglia green recently in our area where there are fruits and they will ripen this year. The person who owns this tree removed his Breba and the tree is older, but again in a pot. Will ask him when he will expect to have his figs ripen and will report back.

Steve and Von,
We need to find a way to make sure this incredible variety brings it's main crop on in time to ripen. It is a great tasting fig.
Steve, Will pick my first main crop fig in AM -- Florea.
Had my last brebas this AM. Both Camuna Small. 67 and 97 grams and they were good. You guys should meet. Maybe Von can come with you when you come to raid my house.
I think you guys would get along fine.
