Battaglia Green Fig

Any fig friends have any info on this variant ? I have heard great things on this variant especially in the past from Henry(Hyall) but probably a year now, there seems to be no info on this variant well being. I have a small BG plant that came back to life in July & is doing great but no fruits. Its about 2 ft tall. Would appreciate any up-dated info on this variant performance for this season or past. Thanks.

Only One thing I can tell you, from watching my plant:
It is not an early ripening cultivar.
You can help it get ripe by growing it in a greenhouse, early in the Spring, and accomodating it slowelly outside, late in May.
That way any late ripening, fig can be forced to ripe fruits,in colder climates.
As for the quality:I do not doubt Henry Report, but I trust it.
Best Regards

Definitely late.

I do have a newly rooted BG, so its perfomance still
needs to be evaluated by me - The pics of fruit I have seen
so far look faboulous.

On the other hand (sorry going off-topic), I also have a
Natalina (think Xmas-time); though it was touted as a very
late fig, I may get my first ripen fruit within a week. The
shape looks rather weird though...

Gorgi is right about Natalina early ripening.
I have a couple of Natalina figs close to ripening in Zone 5. It definitely shows being an early ripening. It will be my first main crop ripe fig of the year.

Here in central Mississippi Battaglia Green (main crop only) ripens around the second week of august.  To put that into perspective, Celeste and other very early main crop figs start to ripen here around the first week of July.  Therefore, BG is really kind of in the middle of the ripening season here.  My BG came from Paradise Nursery, and my oldest one is around 6 or 7 yrs. old.  It is one of the richest tasting figs I've had.  It's a definite winner here.

I'm like the rest who've commented on Natalina.  Mine are definitely early ripening - probably a week or so into the ripening season.  My Natalina came from Ernie Grimo, in Canada.  I've read about the fig of the same name which is supposed to be such a late fig.  The fig we are talking about could never fit that description and must therefore be a different cultivar.  This year was my third year to have Natalina figs, and they are definitely very good figs with a lively fruity flavor.

Hlyell -- great to hear from you. My BG came from Jon. I hope to get some figs from it next year. Would be in its 3rd year then. Hope to get a Natalina from a trade by next year in Canada. I have been putting the idea off because of its lateness in ripening.
