Battaglia Green From Paradise Nursery

I saw the posting of Paradise Nursery closing down and their contributions of their auctions to the Foundation so I thought I'd give them some support. They have the original Battaglia Green tree and were selling cuttings from that tree. I was lucky enough to win the auction and am looking forward to rooting these cuttings and continuing the life of this wonderful tree.
Anybody growing that Battaglia Green tree from Paradise? Any good stories?

Coop, I must have missed the post saying Paradise Nursery is closing down.  I thought they closed down several years ago?  Anyway, I'm growing BG from PN in ground.  It put on fruit late last year because of transplant shock and finally in November I got a marginally ripe fruit.  I'm hoping for better this season.  Good luck with your cuttings.

Congratulations on winning the auction!  Good luck with your cuttings!

Sybil is a great person and the cause is good.  Sybil calls that fig the best of the strawberry verte types.  It's a fig you'll be glad you own from the taste perspective alone.

Paradise closed a long time ago but now Sybil is selling the property which includes her home.  If any of you want to live in Virginia Beach it would be a terrific place.  If I was in a position to buy it I would.

Paradise did close years ago. These are the people who bought the farm. McGinva has documented and grows trees descended from the original mother tree in question, Michael is the guy to talk to Coop.

Thanks for that update Rafael and Bob and thanks Suzi and Steve.
So to be clear, this is the original tree from the property of the former Paradise Nursery.
I feel like I have a piece of "fig history"

Paradise Nursery closed several years ago. These cuttings are from their original trees, being sold by the original owners (Sybil and her husband). The original property, with the original trees, will be sold soon, so this is the last opportunity to receive these varieties from the original Paradise Nursery trees. The name "paradise Nursery" was sold to another nursery in California.

Sybil has been raising money for charity via fig cuttings for several years now. Here is a post from 2012:

Coop,
I have Battaglia Green direct from Sybil as do many other members. BG from 2014 http://figs4funforum.websitetoolbox.com/post/battaglia-green-2014-6993291?highlight=battaglia+green&pid=1283605761#post1283605761

Thanks Jon and JD. I have been going through the old posts and am getting very excited about snagging these. I see a lot written about it...and its all good !!

I have it and it's a delicious fig, The only issue is they ripen late.

Would Bataglia Green be a good choice to grow in a 5gal bucket here in zone 7a? I have one cutting that made it last year and I kept it in the shed all winter. I've been trying to decide whether to plant it, or keep it in a pot so I could put it away each winter. Would that help it fruit earlier?

5 gal would be the minimum size but it should do well.

I have this one too.  It came from Sybil (and was a gift to me from a generous guy who got it from her).  Very tasty.  I posted photos a couple of years ago  (I know you've seen that thread, Coop, ... am just posting here in case anyone else is looking for more pictures).  Gene:  My results so far suggest that it would either need bigger than 5 gal, or else pretty frequent root pruning if you want to keep it in that size pot.
