Bean Bag Polystyrene Beads As Rooting Medium

Any one ever try using this material. I  bought a 100 litre bag at Walmart for C$20.
The beads are consistently large. In my opinion this makes an ideal medium in rooting
where good drainage is critical for that ideal variant. Hence any one ever tried it ?
The perlite material I have used in the past comes in much less consistent sizes and
powdery.

Can you post a photo, please?

We used High Density Polyethylene in a manufacturing process and the resin came in small white beads like you would find in a bean bag.  I used it with sphag moss to root lots of cuttings.  Works great only problem with what we were using was that it cost 74 cents per pound.

Polystyrene beads are inert, non-biodegradable, and should behave similarly to perlite. They can be compressed, so might "shrink" in a heavy pot mix.

maybe they come with 5 Million year warranty? Just curious.

Good question,, anyone else have thoughts on this?

The polyethylene beads do not shrink and are inert also, finding a source for small amounts can be tough.  We were buying 2 million lbs per month for production so the little bit I tried was not missed, I generally got enough out of the trash, which could not be used in production.
