First we heard about the pollinator bee collapse throughout USA,and now a new bat collapse (at least in NY as read today in the NYTscience-section). This comes just when I was thinking to build a bathouse under my garage eave for them to roost and hopefully eat some thenewly acquired aggressive Asian mosquitoes (tiger/zebra), they bite even athigh sunny noon. Hi, everyone is quiet, soLet me tell you about the birds and the beesBates in the caves, moon up above and the figs in the trees
That was very good! A poet in our midst also. Thanks
We have no shortage of bats here- they have made their homes in the garage, barn and in 3 places of our house between the aluminum siding and the house. The babies squeak like baby birds. I know I should get rid of them but I'm sure our mosquito population would sky-rocket! I'm such a push-over- except for gophers in the fig yard!Christy
Christy,I love to watch bats at dusk as they are feasting in the sky. Just be very careful of them, they carry rabies. I'd encourage the ones in the house to find another place to live. Maybe you can erect a few bat houses? SueFree Bat house plans:http://www.eparks.org/wildlife_protection/wildlife_facts/bats/bat_house.asp
