Hi Paul,
is that the original tree that is 6 years old ?
The trunk diameter just looks very small for being that age unless it kept dyeing back to soil level.

Yes it did die  to nothing but I saved it its doing great now.

Paul look forward to seeing that ripe fig and your comments.

I do have a Pop's fig. Last year it gave 3 figs (1st time).
Pop = father/dad.

It is not described (or even mentioned) on the 2006 Belleclare's fig list (see:)
Good old Belleclare last fig list

Is it the same (or sym?) as the "Italian Purple Red"; (BC#17)?
17. ITALIAN PURPLE RED (a) medium, round, dark center (2 crops)

See (below) scan of an old NYT report (2nd - 4th paragraph) relating the two figs.

{"This is Pop's tree," said Chris DiPaola, standing by an Italian Purple Red.}

In my opinion, this is proof that they are one and the same fig; said by
the famous fig expert himself (Chris), own horse's mouth, so to speak!
(for easier reading, enlarge scan more than 100%).

Re thinking:

I got my BC's Pop's fig from my fall 2006 visit (just before they closed shop).
There were no Italian Purple Red figs left/available at that time.

Does anybody have a tagged  "Italian Purple Red" bought directly
from Belleclare (or can claim the origin as so)?

What I am getting at is, that if the 2 figs are different, at some point,
they should have been offered simultaneously.

I also have that same article from the NY Times that Belleclare Nursery was giving out with their fig list/brochure in 2004-2005. The first paragraph talks about Pop's tree being an Italian Purple Red. I still have an original from 2004-2005 trip to Belleclare Nursery. Mine was labeled Pop's Purple Red
