BELMANDIL

Have invited my cousin Aurora for lunch today and look what she offered me as a retribution for my invitation:

BELMANDIL figs.

It is an old variety of very  good figs. They need pollination
Very flavored, sweet and always with a dense red syrupy pulp

I second that.

Hi Francisco
They make my mouth water.

Lucky you they look beautiful!

Boy, that looks good!

Oh my, those are gorgeous figs!

Thank you ALL for looking at those pictures and giving your thoughts.
Being a Smyrna type this fig  needs to be close to the wasps for ripening

Francisco

francisco, amazing as always.

This one looks absolutely amazing. "dense red syrupy pulp" sounds like very good eating!!!

I wonder what it would take to allow me to move to Portugal.  You folks have the best of everything.  Port, figs, you name it.

uau! That is a great looking fig...all those seeds must have given it some texture. Francisco, did the figs have a slight crunch?

Hi my friends,

Thank you for looking at this great fig and telling how you like it.

Belmandil, being in the Smyrna family is much influenced by the timing of its caprification, which always should happen during the second forth night of June...the earlier the better
On some areas these figs are really large,  its pulp always very much full and red/carmin, cracking the multicolored skin of the fig in nice patterns.

Bob, Thank you for the compliment. Yes, there are many good ( and bad)  things around.
About moving, I can only say...if you are a rich man , it can be done very quickly and you shall not have to worry with bad weather, lack of wasps, copied Port (!?), snow etc..

JD, Yes,   right, those seeds add to the texture with a pleasant and agreeable tasty flavor once you grind them and mix with the honey and the pulp of the fruit. All those seeds act as minute sweet almonds.
these seeds are full with ant edible kernel, which if you like can propagate new figs,
You feel all this (better in my opinion) when you chew a couple of dry Belmont's.

Regarding portugal lands- just found this:
http://www.pureportugal.co.uk/listman/listings/l0137.html

it sure lights my sparks...

Eli,
Looks acceptable for price and size but I don't think the best place for figs.It is just East of Vila Ruiva
I see that you seem to be considering a move...
btw , found a land, smaller than the one you spotted, but full of figs!!! and in the right zone.
The cost is not excessive...Am thinking what to do.
