Best Desert King strain ?

Good Pic's Geofiz. Thanks. I am looking forward to a good year from DK if our mild weather persists. DK is the best & most
reliable producer for our zone. Apart from Dauphine, the other variant most likely to rival DK could be GINO.

Geofiz ,
Have you been able to find cuttings of Lampeira to trial in comparison to Desert King ?
Seems to be a hard to find variety in the States .

Kerry - I am hoping to acquire some Lampeira cuttings from France this spring - you are right they are hard to find. There is a Portugese source on the web that says that Lampeira is slightly less productive than Dauphine but better quality and earlier ripening. I have had Dauphine in Europe and have a small (2  year) old tree in the ground. It's quite good - would have to have both DK and Dauphine in hand for a direct taste comparison,  but it certainly is a reasonable quality breba fig (it is the most common breba fig found in markets in France during July).

Geofiz ,
Hope you have good luck obtaining and rooting the Lampeira cuttings.
It would be great if another cultivar became available with breba that could rival Desert King in quality and hopefully production.
 Best ,

geofiz ,
Just read again the Figs in the Pacific Northwest article you posted , I think in the Figs for Very Cool Climates thread.
It is very helpful with the pruning for breba or main crop info especially, even though I am in the Northeast.  Great article altogether.
Thanks,
Kerry
