This Col de Dame Noir in my opinion is the best looking fig of the year for me. Inside and out it is really a nice looking fig. Unfortunately, It did not fully ripen and fell off today. Maybe I babied it too much with the fig shuffle the last week or so. It needed several more days as it was not sweet at all. You can detect the possibilities when looking at it though. Enjoy
Allright! That does it! Between you & Herman, I've been sold on CdD! Beautiful fig!
Superb fig ! Very beautifulThank you for showing such a jewelFrancisco
Thanks for the report. It really looks ripe - wow! I'm surprised it didn't taste ripe. Is it a young tree? Growing in a container? One would think that in your zone that this fig would do well and be able to ripen most of its fruit once it is a mature tree.
Steve, it is a first year cutting and its another one that just did not grow very much this year. Probably because it needs a larger pot really badand it did not get it. It will get more attention next year.
I had one that ripened here in Maryland about 3 weeks ago and was blown away by how good it was. So I would think that once your tree gets established it will do well for you in Georgia with a somewhat longer growing season.
Put in bigger big pot in early spring right before it wakes up and watch it take off in 2014 .Our young CddN cultivar grew extremely well in large pot with normal potting mix and regular MG fert regime and produced a few figs in late September that looked wonderful with its outside and interior pulp color, skin cracking and resin at the eye.
Wow Mike that looks it'll be a good meaty fig to have. I like the deep red interior. Too bad it disappointed you in taste. I hope it WOW's you next year with extraordinary taste.
nice looking mike...Looking forward to next year...Mark
I agree Mike, very hard to find anything to complain about there.
