Best fig crop yet!

You get a bountiful beatuiful crop of figs!  Now that I got rid of that pesky chipmunk, I have more figs to myself and others!  Just look at these pictures.  One tub is full of very sweet and large brown turkey figs.  This is my second basket in 3 days!  And I have more to go pick!  And yes, these figs are rich and very sweet.  So say they are too sweet.  The other tub is a combination of Deanna, Madeline deaux Saison, Peter's Honey, LSU Purple, Celeste, Martin's Unknown, Schar Italian, and Ronde de Bourdeaux.

Dennis,
Can you please specifically direct me to your Schar Italian fig pic?
I do have some special interest in it, as my (unkown) GM17
could be so? It would be the first time (ever) I'h seen an SI pic.

Gorgi, look at the second picture....Deanna is the fig in the top right corner, down from it is Martin's Unknown, down from it is Schar Italian.  I got more getting ripe now.  I got this fig from Dalton Durion.  It does look like Martin's unknown.....at least mine does.  Both of my trees have fruit ripening at the same time too.  I'll take side by side pics tomorrow.  Maybe they're the same fig.

Gorgi, I just went outside to move both my trees side by side.  Their leaf pattern are the same!  And the fruit size is the same.  I'll take photos of these trees and fruit tomorrow.  Its too dark now for a good photo.

Between the cold spell and 3+ straight days of rain we got a few weeks back, I thought for sure it was going to ruin my crop. Luckily, it didn't and I'd have to say that I've easily matched my best year already and still have a whole bunch on the tree that I'm hoping will mature before the colder weather moves in for good.

fortis,

What kind of figs are those in your picture?

noss

They're an unknown variety, my father planted it for me in my yard many yrs ago............I've nicknamed it with the family name for the time being til someone gives it a credible identity. :D

I was hoping some of the forum regulars would have identified it by now but no such luck.

My inexperienced eye thinks they may be along the lines of the Sal's lineage but I think one of the elders here who was given a cutting awhile back disagrees.

One thing I have noticed, the fruit, to me, was always sweet with good flavor but they seem to be getting even better with each year that passes.

TY sir!

I'm starting to get a bit more than I can keep up with to eat in one shot....lol. After work yesterday, I must have picked another two dozen worth and I have at least that much in the refrigerator!

I heard someone mention something about freezing them, I have to assume that's if one plans on making jam or something else other than eating.....no?

Any recommendations?

I do plan on making jam again this season so I figured I'd ask now before I start giving them away.

Also considering making other things, maybe sun dried figs or something......any must have recipes that include figs would be appreciated!

Thnx in advance!

Link to 195 fig recipes, i have had link for quite a while it used to be 178 recipes no have not tried any i eat them off the tree although my neighbor made some fig bread that was nice.
