Best ornamental and tasty fig tree?

I want to replace a tree in my front yard with a fig.
I notice that some varieties, as the Fall comes, becomes quite not attractive. The leaves became brown, twisted and do not fall on their own. Some stay green longer and shed the leaves almost all at the same time.

Would suggest a variety that has a beautiful foliage, looks good in the Fall and still tasty?

From what I see out of my figs, the Conadria and RdB wins.

Thanks!

I haven't tasted it yet, but Vesuviana really has lovely foliage.

This is an interesting concept, I am going to observe mine how they do... I think it matters how the sun hits and how cold and fast the wind comes, for pretty fall color, you ought to plant some blueberries in front of the tree... they make quiet a show of oranges and reds.
You have so many great figs, why not do a 'braided' tree (pleaching)  that is a show as they grow and mingle together.    when fall comes, you select a few you like and have similar long growth, unearth them braid them and plant all together.   and whoolah several varieties in one! when leaves fall, you will have an amazing eye catching tree.

Thank you, Dale and Grasa!
Yes, experimenting is a key here since what I want has to be tuned for a particular climate.
I still think that some particular varieties would be more suitable than the other.

Combining with different plants is a great idea too! My from yard is  dry (unless I water it), hot and sunny in the summer. I guess the pretty blueberries will not survive, I tried :(

Sas,
What variety is that?
I think when the tree is grown up, the foliage (colors) will look different.

Igor I have a 3 way baby Panache that I airlayered, it already dropped its leaves. what I like about it naked is the varigated branches. I think it is a lovely plant.  the yellow leaves on the ground look very beautiful. I passed by one today... very nice.

Oops, good point! I forgot about my Panachee, yes, it is nice too!
The guys will be removing the tree next Saturday, I have a week to decide.

Dale,
Can you post a photo of the Vesuviana leaves please, if you have it?

Sorry! That was Violette de Sollies. If you can ripen those figs, you'll have a superstar.
This tree will get large.

I have been wanting to ask this question for a while now. Bay be it well be answered.

Thanks! I have a small Bourjassotte Noire. Some say it is the same as VdS. With any luck I may taste the fruit next year.

I didn't know it would get large. I was told that a Zidi is a large tree, I will try to keep that one trimmed to keep it smaller.

What is the question? Sorry, I am slow on Sunday's mornings ...

Your first post. Attractive variety for the front lawn.

Ah, yes :)
Have you tried to look into that?
Do you have any varieties in mind that would fit the criteria?

I guess it depends on what you like... I love giant crazy leaves... I like the Ice Crystal leaves also... and I love it when the leaves fall cause i can turn it into a spooky Halloween decoration with lots of spiderwebs...

I'd plant a Joly Tiger at a shady corner of the front yard. Nothing beats that beauty :)

Edit: Also Clown Fig with variegated leaves look absolutely stunning as a nice bush or flat on the wall.

I also like the large leaves and Ice Crystal leaves but I am just trying to deceive what varieties to plant near the house. FMD has the Alma sisters and they look great near his pool.

The JT is not super tasty though. My ideal fig should be fun to eat as well!
Following the Grasa's suggestion, My two top are Conadria and Panachee at the moment.
I have not seen or tried the Vesuviana yet, might be another good one but I do not have it.

I wish I could post a photo of Vesuviana. I was so pleased to have started several from a generous member and passed out extras, saving one for myself. I had it my office for while, it was so pretty. Well, this past winter got the better of it and I am left without a backup. Sometimes redundancy is good. Meanwhile you can find it at https://sites.google.com/site/mediterraneanfloragarden/

Thanks, Dale!
I emailed Maggie but there are no cuttings left this year.
I need to wait until the next Fall or find among our fellow members.

Igor,
When I saw this house I thought of you... and this thread. :)
I hope you enjoy.
