Best potting mix

I'm just getting into growing figs in containers. Does anyone have a recommendation for a potting mix? Either a store bought one or a recipe I'd mix myself. Any insight would be appreciated. Thanks

It depends on your location. What is it?
And welcome to the forum!

Welcome to the forum. I don't know what you can find in the Pittsburgh area. A couple of good ones are

Fertilome Ultimate Potting Mix and Fafard B3 but there are many others also. ProMix is also good but for me it drains to fast for
my larger plants here in the deep south. The two I mentioned hold more moisture.

MG potting mix and perlite is a good place to start IMHO

4 parts peat to 1 part perlite and dust with some lime.

Welcome to the forum. Keep it simple.

I'm using Pro-Mix BX with good results.

I'm about 25 to 30 miles northeast of the city. At first I was mixing my own soil but now I use Pro Mix with Bio-fungicide. Buying a ready to use mix saves you time from mixing your own and is light weight which comes into play when you up-pot to large containers. It's a back killer trying to move a 20 gallon pot of moist Miracle Grow with a tree growing in it. Pro Mix helps to alleviate that problem.

Welcome to the forum

I'm a first yr grower so not a lot of experience here. I have a few two yr old trees in 5g pots and about 25 that I have rooted and potted in #1 size pots this year. I'm using a 5:1:1:1 mix of pine bark mulch, peat(or std Miracle Grow potting mix in recent efforts), perlite, and Oil Absorb from Tractor Supply, with 1 cup of both dolomitic limestone and Espoma Plant-Tone in 5g of the mix. There are a lot of options-this was recommended to me by people with some experience. Do a search on the forum for potting mix, for 5:1:1 mix and you should find lots of advice and opinions

Good luck! There are a few of us from the area here on this forum

Thanks for all the great suggestions.
