Best UCD Varieties - Taste & Productivity

Based on taste & productivity, what would be UCD most popular/best varieties from their breeding program?? They have so many numbered varieties.

Paul. I'm glad you posed this question. I have been wanting to know more about the UCD numbered varieties myself. Jon has a little info in his varieties pages on some of them. I've seen a brief description of a few of them on Bass's site also. But I'm guessing that there are plenty of other folks who have grown some of these to fruiting size.

I hope we get some responses on this because, again, I am very curious to know more about the UCD # varieties myself.  Anyone?

Paully,

UCD didn't have a breeding program, but the numbered varieties came from other breeding institutes some from Kearney and some from Ira Condit and others.
Many of the numbered varieties looked and tasted similar, but there were some that are better than others. I took some notes as I tasted them with Jon at the ucdavis orchard, but there are a couple things to keep in mind. These trees are grown in a different climate than most of us. They do have the wasp which can enhances the flavor of the common figs. These figs are also irrigated on daily basis in the dry months of summer.

Thanks for the clarification Bass.

My main interest is to know how well some hobby growers of these UCD numbered variants are doing in their zones. We hear lots of interesting  & useful feedbacks on LSU varieties but somewhat lacking on these numbered varieties that are more accessible. I have 8 numbered variants. So far those that have fruited, it is becoming more apparent that they are not going to hold on to their "keeper" status. Maybe I did something not right. Hence if more info is forthcoming, it would be helpful. At the moment I have manageable problems if the requirements are related to hot, humid, cool or late ripening issues. As long as they are excellent tasting like Longue d' Aout etc, I would be happy. Productivity is a bonus. I do have a headache if they need the wasp.

Numbered variants that have given me figs are 143-28, 184-15 and 276-49.

@Bass; That's pretty much what I was looking for. Thanks for the link to that page on your site. I had not seen it before now.

I started a few UCD varieties last season. I also hope to get a few new ones this season. I'll comment more on those later.

184-15 Nice large fruit.
187-25 Great flavor, slow grower.
337-2 or 337-3 has great flavor - not sure which.
DFIC0164 -there are two selections in the group (see pix) that are great.
278-128 is like Deanna, large, somewhat mild flavored.
153-17 has good flavor.
K-6-5 is supposed to be a taste winner at the annual tastings.

Why hasn't 143-36 been mentioned here so far since it has been praised much in a few threads?

143-36 has been a consistent favorite and UC Davis tastings. I didn't have time to be exhaustive
