As someone who grows mostly in pots it seems to me that any variety will do fine in a pot. The bigger the pot, the more fruit and the more resistant the plant is to problems. You do have to root prune/top prune every so often so pot culture is more labor intensive. See the thread, "Start Here" for a link to a thread on which varieties do best for your area.
Also, if you click the search link (above, right) there's an option to search for members from FL and you can then click on their names and find their posts and threads. That will tell you what they grow. Using the abbreviation will get you a lot more hits than spelling out the name. The computer knows to include "Florida" when searching for FL but it doesn't include FL when searching for Florida. I'll get you started with our most prolific Floridian, FMD.
In general humid places need a closed eye or an eye sealed with honeydew.
