Hello all, what would be the best way to start fig cuttings? I see some people strip out the bottom of the cutting removing the bark, I see people simply putting it into growing soil directly and I see people dipping in clonex and putting into growing soil… just wondering your thoughts on the best method that is true and testing? trying to start cuttings in NYC area which we are heading into fall/winter so will pot these up and put them under grow light.

This is a well covered issue on the forum. You can use "Search" in the upper right hand corner and read for hours and hours on the subject. Just enter something like 'rooting' and limit the search to subject only. Jon also tells how he does it in the the "getting started/start here" thread which always at the top. There are many ways to go about it, try one(or more) and then ask questions if doesn't work and always share your results. I start mine in bag with sphagnum and move them to cups with a mix of perlite/jiffy seed starter/vermiculite 2:1:0.5  it works for me. Have fun, and welcome aboard.

Be careful of too much water when rooting is my advice.  Or use Rich's method.  I think Rich's method works so well because the cutting is induced to rapidly grow, so he can "get away" with more irrigation.  Without the heat mat/ root zone temperature control I think the cutting would mold and rot.
