Bethlehem Black 8-12-14

Medium size with thin skin with not much taste. The flavor is more raspberry flavor and not to sweet.; No seed crunch. It probably suffered a little from the rains but it was still pretty good. It should be better the next week without rain I hope. About a 7 for now.

the one i had didnt survive the winter. looking good tho Mike, keep us posted on how the next batch turns out.

That looks wonderful Mike:)  Just planted mine this year.

Thanks Mike they do look good.  I managed to get some cuttings rooted this spring so hopefully maybe next year for me.

Good looking fig!

Very nice, I hope mine will fruit next year. Good looking fig!

Mike -- did you mean that the skin itself doesn't have much taste, or that the fig as a whole doesn't have much taste?  I'm guessing you meant the skin, since you rated the fig a 7.
Apart from that, it looks very similar in size, shape, and taste description to a fig I got two years ago called "Dwarf Portugal."  However, the Dwarf Portugal had a very intense/distinct raspberry taste.  The first fig I had (very ripe) was not very sweet.  The second (very, very ripe) had just a bit of sweetness.
It has me wondering, now if they could be the same (or related).
I'll have to go back and read more on Bass' original postings about Bethlehem Black and compare leaves...
Jim

Jim, I meant the skin. Pulp has pretty good raspberry flavor.

I just picked a breba tonight.  The skin had some flavor but not as much as a Violette de Bordeau.  the "meat" was sweet and juicy and the pulp had a mild berry taste.

You can see the family resemblance.    :)
