Big box store fig.

I got to taste my few figs that were left alone on the tree after we got back from 2 weeks long vacation. Some kid in the neighborhood had ransacked all the figs, but I am glad I had this one. Supposedly a BrownTurkey fig, that I purchased from Home Depot last year. The fig was very sweet, slightly chewy, light seed crunch and figgy. By the way I had been touring France, Italy and Montenegro for the past 2 weeks and it was awesome seeing figs growing everywhere.

Looks good!  More importantly, that kid needs to leave your figs alone!

Sounds like an amazing trip!  Did you get to eat any figs on your trip?  Sorry about your tree being stripped.  Not fun, but at least you had one!  Woo Hoo!

The trip was amazing. No I did not get to eat any figs. All the trees that were part of homes I noticed were loaded with figs but not ripe. I spoke to a few locals and they mentioned August was the time for them ripen. But it was amazing to see so many fig trees and how intricate it was to the mediterranean culture and civilization. And the wild ones grew everywhere, on sides of the streets, rail tracks, walls of old buildings, on the cliffs and everywhere I saw.

Did you by any chance get to taste the Chanterelles in France. I noticed it is common for people in the rural areas to go out in any forest areas and pick them. So for the week I was in Bordeaux it only took us a half hour or so each day to find some for dinner... then the Biodynamic wine flowed for the rest of the evening

Andre, I did not. I had a strict schedule to keep up and did not have time to try many of local food. May be next time, I should plan like you did. Spend a week.

Your BT looks suspiciously like a Celeste.

I am definitely not a expert like John is, but as I read through the thread I thought "hey that looks kind of like my Celestial". It is the one on the left.

Its absolutely possible. It was labelled BT and was from Home Depot. And I am not an expert with figs and slowly learning. Thanks John and Shawn for pictures and clarification.

One question, does Celest drop fruits before maturing. I see the tree dropping a few.

Thanks again for writing back. This is what I like about this forum.
