Big figs

Hi All,

I was looking at Jon's pics and spotted the big daddy of figs Martin's Purple Unknown. This got me thinking, what are some of the largest figs out there? I mean fruit that you can palm like an apple. I'd love it if everybody would post some opinions on big figs. Pics are welcome too :)

Martin, are you the source of this particular monster?

Orphan is the biggest I have so far. Have high hopes for Joe's Big Green too

Can your tell me a little more about these figs guys? How big are they getting? Also, are they hardy at all? Might want to look out for some.

I had a brown turkey with figs that big. Seems the bigger they are, the worse they taste, if you ask me. There *is* such a deal as "too much of a good thing"

My Bifara also grows big purple fruits when not rootbound in the pot.

Also, I was surprised when my fig 143-28 rooted in the spring of 2011 gave me a tennis ball size fruit looking almost likeTena. This plant has someone else's name on it but I could not look after shipping for a few reasons. My own 143-28 plant did not do well this year.

Genovese Nero

120-150 grams

Mario's 100 grams
Long yellow 120 grams
Vito

My largest is Conadria breba. The flavor was mostly sweet but since it was my first to ripen, I ate them greedily. Martin's Unknown was my biggest dark fig but because of the rain during ripening they split and soured thus I have no pictures. I will say that I did get to taste a little of Martin's Unknown and it had a very good fig flavor.

Conadria

Those are some big figs genecolin! Did you grow the conadria and Martin's in-ground or in pots? I'm limited to pots at the moment.

I see there are varied locations everybody is coming from. Any comments on cold hardiness of these varieties?

My Conadria and Martin's UK are both growing in the ground. Since I live in South Louisiana being cold hardy is hardly a factor.

Yes i was i was , i gave my tree away along with scion to members back a few years ago.
How time fly's !

Being in Chicago you answered my hardiness question too Martin. I would love to get some clippings of Martin's purple unknown if anybody is willing to part with them. Gene?

dawgdrvr, those ripen early June in La.

tpellenb, my tree is small but I might be able to get a couple of cutting this winter.

My unknown I have that are likely related to if not Khurtami/Brunswick itself are quite large, with a nice flavor. Very resistant to rain both in terms of flavor dilution and splitting. Ripening the last 2 weeks in northern VA.
