Bird damage?

My other post about squirrel protection now needs to add birds? Is this bird damage or maybe mouse chewing? I netted a nearby blackberry that was attracting squirrels and the berries are still being eaten so some thing is out there. I found some little poops on the plant leaves. Looked a litle bigger than a mouse but not much.

I don't think it matters, the net will protect from both

A pellet gun will work on both.

You could try shiny flashy things blowing in the win.

  1. strips aluminum foil
  2. cd disks
  3. pin wheels
Or a big plastic owl

How is that for a first post?

All netted up now. Was just curious. I wonder if they will try for the thorny raspberries.

thorns will not even slow a bird.

Remember this is how seeds were spread before man came along.

They got to all my raspberries and blueberries :(( .  I will be fighting them for the figs though - using the organza bags!!

I net my blueberries but not my blackberries, the birds don't seem to like them though an occasional squirrel has at them.

Other members have had success with shiny objects, spinners, hung by wire to make some noise as well.

Just wanted to add my 2 cents: Tried all of the above and nothing worked. Shiny dangling CDs/DVDs, solar powered owl whose head keep rotating, etc never stopped the mockingbird from pinching and eating all my ripe figs. Bird netting was the only effective solution that worked for me.
BTW, the mockingbird even ended up shitting on my owl the first day I put it up.

Otmani that's hilarious, that mockingbird really earned its name, mocking our efforts to protect our little fruits from their predations...

that certainly is funny.  I figured the netting would protect from both, was just curious if i have a new critter to worry about.

You're absolutely, correct. The mockingbird does live up to its name. Now that all my figs have been protected, the mockingbird is a joy to watch, especially when he keeps tip toeing his way through the garden and stretching his wings in such artist fashion let alone his beautiful singing.

Ripe figs are like crack cocaine to mockingbirds.

LOL....Tell me about it. Prior to netting, my chances of enjoying my ripe figs were ALMOST non existent.
