Birds Eating Figs Through The Netting

A few days ago I bought some 28' X 28' bird netting to cover some of the larger trees that are ripening figs.  But even with the netting I am finding figs on the VdB tree that have been picked at by birds.  I don't think the birds are getting under the netting.  I think they are landing on the netted tree and picking at the fruit through the netting.  They cannot get at the figs deeper inside the tree, but are reaching ones closer to the netting.

I still think netting is the best way to keep birds off of the figs, but it is not 100% effective.

Yeah, you have to build a frame if you want to protect all your fruits. Anywhere netting is in contact with fruit the birds can peck at it....

These have worked effectively for other fruits, may want to give them a try http://www.storesupply.com/pc-12845-1228-beige-womens-sewn-bottom-footlet-64106.aspx

Thanks for the feedback guys.  I think I can live with losing a few figs near the net, as long as the majority of them are still protected.  If the birds get too clever I may have to do more to protect the figs.  By the way Kevin, I looked at that video on your website.  I like the setup you have at your house.  This should be a good year for you with that beautiful garden you have.
