Bisiri's Best

First fig of many of many from this tree this year. This fig is sold by Bisiri's as a light fig. Mr Bisiri and his son  both confirmed this fact, but as you can see, it is really more of dark or medium dark. As it matures it develops dark stripes that sort of fill in to a more consistent dark. Medium sized as well, but very large on taste. This is an awesome fig! Mr Bisiri calls it a light fig because the inner coloration is much lighter than his dark fig and somewhat lighter on the outside too. He only sells the 2 varieties that he or his family brought here some 50 years ago. Occasionally though, he will start cuttings given to him by other fig growers and they will sometimes be sold amongst his 2 varieties. JazzBass can attest to that fact as he purchased 3 different trees from Bisiri.

Looks good Barry.

Nice Looking Fig Barry

Barry thanks for the pics and info on Bisiri , very interesting to me.

Hi Barry,

I was getting online to send you an email about this, but since you brought it up... Do you have a pic of the leaves? I have a tree from a cutting from Jazzbass labeled #3. I have a single fig which may ripen in a month. The leaves, however, do not match either 1 or 2.

That is nice. Does Mr. Bisiri still sell and does he ship?

James, I will get a pic of the leaves for you. I'm not sure of Ricci's numbering system, I've been going by size and color and only have the 2 figs that Mr Bisiri brought from Italy, Ricci has another unknown from him, maybe he will chime in, Hey Ricci!! Mr Bisiri still sells, he's 90 years old a still going strong. He is, however, shut down til next spring. No he doesn't ship.

Barry,

Do we know from where in Italy Mr. Basiri comes?

Dale I understand Mr Bisiri comes from the Le Marche region of Italy. Here's a pic of the leaves from last year.

Barry, looks like a productive healthy variety.  I looks very similar to the one I posted the other day - maybe in the same family of varieties?

Leaves look a little different to me but pretty close, the fruit looks pretty close too could be the same or related. This is an excellent tasting fig. I see you were sent yours as a Hardy Chicago which is obviously mistaken. Maybe if you check back with your source they might recall by now what they sent to you

Rewton, I also have Sal's Corleone which is supposed to be the same or similar to Sicilian red which also might be what you have. I can assure you the Bisiri and Sal's Corleone are very different figs. Bisiri is super in my opinion to SC, much richer flavor.
