Bitter Sweet

This is the very last of my Hardy Chicago's. With a couple Conadria EL's thrown in. I just love this combo. Alas the dark figs in my collection have been harvested. Gino's, BT, Texas E., Celeste, Alma, LSU Purple and now my HC's. It's true I have a c^%$load of new figs and I'll get a Cavaliere here and a St. Jeromes there, etc, but I planned my orchard without enough late season figs. That's changed but this year I'll still have but few darks to go with my Conadrias, Paradisios and my Marylane Seedlesses. Ah, the folly of ignorance.
But tonight I feast on a nice plate of the wondrous harvest of summer. Figs, cheese, bread and Bodington's Beer all while enjoying the redskins last preseason game. And all my dog gets is the other steak off the grill. Well, and maybe some cheese. And maybe some garlic bread.

You just had to mention beer!!! Haven't had one since my leg issue. I'm still on meds.

But enjoy the bounty. Glad to hear about it.

Bodington's is only 4% beer. Did your hollow leg get filled in? Seriously - what's wrong with your leg that stops you from suds?

The leg is filling but slowly. My thighs are numb and in constant pain from the nerves being effected. I take meds and pain meds ( at night ).

The pain is like I'm being poked by a thousand needle and it travels up and down my thighs.

I tried to drink a beer not long ago when I had guests but it didn't feel right going down.

The surgeon saw me yesterday and he's sending me to a sports medicine specialist, then we might consider seeing a neurologist.

Thanks for asking and your concern.

Do you have neuropathy? It can be very painful. A lot of folks that have diabetes develop this disorder. It's becoming a real problem.
Pain meds don't go that great with beer.
Sorry to hear you are in pain. I know what that is like.
Make sure you are getting enough vitamin B12.
Good luck.
I'll think good thoughts about you; - it can't hurt.

Neuropathy: my problem started at the sametime of the bee sting/bacteria infection.

The numbing started at the effected leg and then a week or two later it spread to my other leg.

I do feel pinching on my lower back that sometimes causes me to walk akward.

Hopefully the sports med doc find a solution.

Good thoughts never hurt, thanks

I will try B12 vitamin, what do I have to lose?

I have a very successful and well known foot doc living up the street and I talked to him about the neuropathy in my feet and he said the most important thing was to not go barefoot and to take B12.

I sure hope they can figure yours out.

Thanks,

Means a lot.

Very pretty plate of figs, mgg. My newly purchased Trader Joe's figs from today, while passable for a fix, are a pale imitation of yours.

Rafed, I'm very sorry to hear about your discomfort. I hope you are able to find something easy that helps.

Rafed,
The nerve pain sounds like my sciatic nerve pain, but the diabetes may be effecting the sciatic nerve in some other way. I've got nerve pain from my lower back to my toes from a drunk driver hitting my truck and a herniated disc in my lower back pressing on the sciatic nerve. You might try an inversion table if there aren't any other health problems that would be aggravated from hanging at a comfortable angle downward. It helps to relieve the pressure on the sciatic nerve in my lower back and lessen the pain.

Good luck!

sorry to hear of your complications Rafed, didn' realize you were having that much trouble, hope you overcome it. Excellent looking plate of figs!!!

Lower back sounds like QL (quadratus lumborum) and the leg pain sounds like piriformus (common source of sciatica for truck drivers due to wallet position/sitting)

I did not intend to shift the topic of this thread so sorry to mgginva.

But I want to thank everyone for their comments and concerns.
However, a plateful of ripe figs will help put an ease on the pain.

Thank you

Rafed,
I appreciate you caring that the topic got a little side tracked but I don't care. Hell, if I can help anyone in any small way deal with their pain I'm glad to blow off the goofy figs anytime. Pain sucks!
Gina thx - I do really wish figs weren't so dang seasonal.

There's still pain but sometimes I just deal with it. And I don't carry my wallet in my back pocket, I usually wear sweat pants or short.

But I'm confident it will all go away sooner or later.

Thanks all.

Missed this thread yesterday.  Got distracted with my fantasy football picks!  5 teams will do that to ya;-))

Sorry about your pain Rafed, and hoping you recover really soon!  Pinched nerves, and anything back related is very serious, so I'll be praying for you along with everyone else!
