Black Beauty 10

Thanks for pointing that out.  You do know that next year this fig will be at least half that price, then the year after it will be same as other great figs.  A lot more people are growing this fig than I originally thought.

Don... I was just pointing out this info because I hadn't seen a live post by Dan, who was apparently acknowledged as a fig sage,  since I joined the forums last year and common wisdom was that he dropped out so to see the listing on eBay was a surprise.... The post was really notable for that reason rather than the fact that he is selling any particular variety and I would have posted the same info if I had seen him selling a Brown Turkey.....  :-)

I forgot to add... Has anyone else tasted this fig??

I mean no disrespect to Dan, his word, and taste buds.

But for example, when a person asks me which fig to grow here but can only have one tree, I recommend Vista, it is the best all around fig 3 years running in my climate, good brebas, great rich complex berry flavor, long season, reliable grower.

We all know this is not the case in NJ.

tsparozi,

Your right, to see him list this fig, especially when he said he would never, is indeed note worthy.

I was sincere when I said, thanks for pointing this out.  I might want to buy it after all.  I would like a few more taste reports personally that's all.

His listing seems to have struck on note with buyers since he has already sold 5 of the 10 sets (4 in the last hour) he had up for sale even though his 3 cuttings are priced at double the price for 3 cuttings packages as listed by cajunB on 1/29... I guess there were folks interested in the BB10 that missed the previous sales .... or the fact that his name is associated with the sale is what is increasing interest...

Tony, I think the increasing interest is due to you pointing out;-))

Gary... I am surprised by that as I am usually not the quickest to the draw so to speak and there were already lots of watching activity listed when I ran across it...  But perhaps that is the case.... I hope people didn't go buying a fig on the basis of my post, I wasn't promoting the fig or the seller; both of which I have no first hand knowledge of...   :-)

He always said he would never profit off his figs. If he sold cuttings he would donate the money. However I don't see that in his listing. Interesting

Definitely one that I'm interested in seeing how it turns out.  If it really is fmv free, fast growing, and easy to root the prices should drop really quick.

My first thought was that it was probably an imposter. Is that his Ebay account?

If it's an imposter they have been an imposter since 1999.

I'm a little concerned about the authenticity too. All the pictures for the listing appear low-res like they were copied from the web, are ones from the forums. At least the seller has the correct "ship from" location (assuming that you can't fake that too). Hopefully it is Dan.

That is Dan's account, you'd think he'd have some new pictures after 6 years though. Most likely the figs from his tree have not looked as good as the ones from the mature tree, important for everyone to remember when looking at a found fig; mature trees ripen earlier with better quality fruit so comparison to younger trees of other varieties is not really possible. The claim about DNA testing really demands evidence, a bonafide researcher would have shared their methods, materials, results etc.

If it is an imposter, he really hit Dan's pompous demeanor on the head.

Cponzi,

I wanted to post that exact comment. Thank you.

I wish Dan well since he discovered this variety and has put all the work into keeping several years of good research records. I would buy from him but I already have it. Good luck Dan.

Funny about the imposter concerns.... THAT was one of the first things that also crossed my mind considering how many SCAMMERS are hitting eBay today.... it's certainly possible than any scammer or scammer mole (hi pofigist!) could do sufficient forum research to be able to make some kind of credible persona up to mimic Dan... Part of that persona would also include the famous (infamous?) personality which certainly has rubbed some folks the wrong way and would serve to make the fake persona more lifelike so to speak.... having said that, the ebay id and the history of the id would be a little more difficult to fake because even though the seller sale description is easily written and faked by anyone, getting the seller history in alignment with Dan's past sales history would require full complicity and support from someone within ebay themselves... An eBay mole supporting a scammer.... not impossible but....  BTW... I have thought that an ebay mole paid for and operating on behalf of the scammers would go a long way toward explaining how these scammer can manage such high ratings without needing to have eBay in its entirety complicit in supporting scamming as an income stream...

My feedback is shown from when I bought cuttings from him a few years ago .

Hi Chapman,

I couldn't find it, could you please give us a synopsis, what do you think of it?

He was not selling the BB-10 back then and I do not have that variety.  I bought cuttings from another variety from him.

I guess he became the favorite charity.

Thanks for the bump and pointing this out Tony!

No problem... I really was only commenting on Dan's reappearance to fig society because I thought he had dropped out based on what I had read on the forums... Initially I didn't even realize he had 10 packages he was offering... I thought it was 1 and done and then saw that he had more and there were people already following and that he had sold 1 and had refused several best offers.... I wasn't buying so for me it was informational more than anything....

I don't blame him for selling it. Might as well since it's being sold by others.  He deserves to make something from it and I hope he sells a ton of them.

Edited to add...Yes I did.  :)

Sold all 10!
