Black Beauty 10 The best black this year

Good day, for years I wondered if BB10 was as good as some said it was. I can completely agree that this fig is one of my best black figs. Thank you to the member that traded this tree with me! You know who you are! This fig has a very intense berry flavor tangy and super sweet! Totally amazing fig!

Enjoy my pics.

Nice! It's always good when a fig lives up to its hype.

Dennis.... do you grow Sultane? Am wondering if the BB10 is in any way similar and if so, how much so.... Ross posted pics of his Sultane fruit and to my untrained eye, the fruits he posted pics up and yours look very similar as do the leaves that I have looked at. Ross said his Sultane was one of his best figs this year and assigned it a 9/10; your comments suggest you came to a similar conclusion....

My Sultane had fruits with beautiful fissures in the skin. It was a good fig but not better than St Rita or RdB that have black fruit of similar size.

Dennis thank you for the pictures. The interior isn't pretty but the taste is what counts.

Dennis you have a beautiful collection of some of or all the best ripened figs Love this one. I tried rooting some I got from Cajun b but failed. Did you have a hard time ?

Dennis,

Looks like a great tasting fig!

Tad

My BB10 cuttings from Dan rooted easily. They were very high quality cuttings IMO, from a mature slow growing tree with short internodes.

Thanks for posting the beautiful fig photos!

Congratulations Dennis. I jumped on Dans BB 10 bandwagon this year but have found the two that I have got going to be very slow growers. Maybe a foot tall at best and not that all impressive yet. I am hopeful that it will take off next year.

Mine have been replaced by Cajun b without if asking Very good Louisiana friend. Must be that southern hospitality. 😁 Going back to rooting in closed plastic bags I've gotten too lax in my rooting.

Unfortunately CajunB left this forum. Over the years he has invited me a few times to come visit LSU on their open day.

Awesome. I remember some people thought it could be related to Kathleen's Black. What do you think?

No.  It's definitely not the same fig as Kathleen Black.  I have Kathleen Black which is an elongated black fig.  This fig is round shaped and taste 20 times sweeter and better than KB.  IMHO, KB isn't worth the trouble growing.  It's very finicky.

Agreed Dennis. My KB has been the same size since I got it. Producing enough figs for three birds. Lol

Dennis, this makes me happy.  I'm looking forward to getting fruit from my BB10 next year.  Mine is a robust grower and very healthy.  It put some figs on late in the season but I pulled them off.  Maybe I will plant it in the hole where my KB was!

What happened to your KB? Did you pull it because of poor performance?

Thanks, Dennis.

Levar, no I haven't pulled it out yet but I'm well past due to do that and it may happen this Fall.  I have been growing KB for 5 years and have only gotten 1 or 2 figs in that time.

Mine was sent packing
