Black Bethlehem

Just picked has faint rich taste and maybe little creamy texture.
Decent fig but i cannot keep all fig plants i grow.

Martin ,
Which fig varieties of yours will you always keep and how would you rank them according to your own taste preference as of now ?
Hard question I know , but try.

Kerry thats a tough question to answer.

Keepers below to date in no order.

Hardy chicago
Violet de Bordeaux
Ronde de Bordeaux
EL.Sals
Ischia Black - to experiment with.
Jolly Tiger - for its one of a kind leaves first and foremost,  it does bear dark and variegated figs as well.

All others are on a rotating evaluation some may stay but most will go and some eventually on there way to see if there special to me only.

Thanks Martin . It is good to get an updated idea of figs that do very well in your area of zone 5.
Kerry

Kerry many do well grown in pots here as rain is not usually a problem like for others .
For example below.

I'm waiting on  maybe a few Maderia figs this season as i held it back in early spring as previous season it died to soil level doing the fig shuffle .
Now its at 43 inches tall .

There is a chance i see a few to ripen and surely would have already if i did not just let it grow wild with no limb pruning and leaving all figs on.

Yeah i'm going against the grain - to bad !   ; )
John once called me incorrigible and i had to look up that fancy 12 letter word to see what he meant in another thread.

Here is 5 lateral branches all new growth with figs simply left alone.
and picture of part of main trunk.

Incorrigible , that's like getting called 3, four letter words all rolled up into one. You must have made him mad beyond just one , four letter word.
Pictures are great , but would you please get those little figs off of there so you can get those others to ripen before Halloween.
Maybe that 12 letter word applies.
Won't that be something to get a nice Black Madeira in zone 5.

Kerry

Naw he was not mad Jon was just messing around.
Some of us do that - Figs 4 Fun in a comic sense!

All figs stay on plant though.
I know from my previous dated pictures how long some of those larger figs been on plant and some will ripen well before Halloween starting from lower part of certain branches working there way up until our weather no longer permits.
Its day 60-62 for some and the eyes have turned a darker red on a few the younger ones pinkish and the new ones pinkish/whiteish.  ; )

I just pulled your strings a little bit for asking me a tough question.
Rafed knows the feeling well.

How old is your Black Bethlehem Martin?   I always love reading your info and looking at your photos.
