Martin,Your Black Bethlehem tree is beautiful like its parent.noss
Aw Noss im not that handsome.Sorry could not help myself - ; )
Dieseler, All your fig trees look very happy. Could you tell a little about your soil, watering habits, and such? Thanks, Bob
Martin,
Good job Martin, I visited this tree yesterday to check on it since it wasn't covered last winter either. It is growing nicely. It's definitely a good fig, I hope you enjoy the figs.
Thanks for tree compliment.I don't do anything special on serious note they grow by themselves with little care except root pruning is a genuine pain.Over the years i try different bags of potting mixes along and always just use miracle grow mixed with water to feed them weekly depending on weather.I find no difference in the way they grow for me over the time in the different mixes.Since i find that for me my plants do nothing special in different mixes this season i make my own and used in the plants i root pruned only reason to save some money, at this point i see no difference in the plants.Bass i look forward to tasting the figs. ; )I do scratch in some lime into the top of pots . Unless they have been root pruned then they already have it in the potting mix i mixed up.I only measure the miracle grow stuff everything else i just go by eye.Again many thanks for the nice words.
Nice looking fig. I just realized I like the square pots too. I have all of mine in the large round Home Depot pots like yours on the left. I bet the square ones are more stable for tall figs in high wind and easier to keep stable on the two wheel hand cart when moving.
What a beautiful trees that you got Martin.
I just make a pics of my Blach Bethlehem..Sorry, we do have rain for 3 days now..So, I real try hurry up with this pictures..

Olga's fig and Martins fig do not look the same to me??
This one from Bass too..Only last year this one was real struggle, don't grow and all, so this is not so bushy like Martin..But I'm glad this one start grow this year and even will have figs..I think this one will real good...I will post pictures of a fruits when they will be ripe..
Actually..Too bad we do have a real strong rain today, but Friday I want to post pics of 2 Raspberry Latte from Jon..They look completely different, but I'm sure they both Raspberry Latte..Real mystery for me why they look so different..
Very nice Martin! You have the best figs in pots that I have ever seen. I will start the fig shuffle at the beginning of next season and do my best this season to maintain a liquid fertilizer routine; it ain't easy! I believe the fig shuffle (and the regular fertilizing routine to a lesser degree) is critical to the repeatable, predictable success that you continue to have. It is on display in the healthy, beautiful fig trees and fruit you routinely share in your pictures.Amidst the praise, I would like to echo Cecil's comment about your main crop appearing to be somewhat different than what Olga posted and different from the images that Bass at Trees of Joy. The one fig I had in 2010 (attached) seems to be different and my 2011 main crop (Images 2-5) look a little different from your second photo; not as elongated.
JD, I think I do have a small figs on a top of the plant..I will make a pics tomorrow and post them..Before I just want to wait when fruit will get ripe..I real did straggle with this one on beginning..Bass keep sending cuttings of this one again and again.. This is only one survive.. I real wanted to have this variety so I was all over this one.. So, no way tags can be change or some other mistake..And hopefully next year this one will be much bigger ...Still I'm very happy this one start grow for me and produce..But I don't use Miracle grow fertilizer..Never did...Still I hope this one will continue to grow for me...Few month from now I didn't believe in adding fertilazer or lime..Now I change my mind..I add one time fertilazer 10-10-10..And 2 time lime..I real kind afraid to force too much my plants to grow..I know with everything in this life when you use something too much this will hurt in the end...
