--- Black Fig ID , please

All my previous fig ID posts didn't get far to id the figs so let's see if this time would successful ...

I found a very nice fig today. The eye is closed, all the way until the fig is dropped. The ones you see on the photos were still on the tree and probably could use 2-3 more days but would be damaged by the birds so I took them off while they are still in one piece.

The skin is very thin, cracked when ripe, black with blue hue, the taste is very good! It is like a raspberry but less intense, sweet but not too much. The fig size is larger than the Black Mission (at least the Black Missions I've seen). I noticed 2 common leaf shapes, see in the photo. There is some pleasant acid aftertaste.

The owner doesn't know any history so no help there. I think could get a few cuttings if the road is properly smoothed with nice beer :)

Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

I'm not sure but it looks like a nice find!

Thanks, Ryan!
I checked against this list:
http://www.figs4funforum.websitetoolbox.com/post/My-Montserrat-Pons-varieties-selection-6200610?

and can visually match several but who knows ... Manresa, De la Reina, Calderona.
I've never tasted any of those, unfortunately.

Greenfig.

These are very nice figs . Potential winners.
I am sure soon they will be identified by some forum member. The format and shape of the leaves will definitely help.
Good luck for the coming propagation...

Francisco

Francisco,

Thank you for your encouragement !
And also thank you for your seed germination recipe, I started 3 different kinds yesterday with the vinegar and without to see the difference. I'll post my results if there will be any.

It seems it is very hard to ID a fig since there are so many varieties. But even without it's proper name, this fig is very nice.

Fig looks very much like black mission to me .
The leafs somewhat as well .

John

They are some fine looking figs...good luck with those...hope they taste as good as they look.

Igor,

Is the flavor any different that the usual black missions?

Small spots on the figs are similar to Black Mission figs.

Can someone please tell me how to insert pictures correctly by using Photobucket.com . Thank you.

Chris,
The taste is different from the BM figs I had a few weeks ago, the size is larger too. That is why I was a bit uncertain.

Tam, comparing the looks, this can be a BM close relative. It seems several people so far mentioned the BM and there are quite a few of them here in CA so it is not hard to find a 100% BM or any permutation of slight variations.
