Good ending on this one. It is one of the 41 trees I thought I had lost this winter. It is also one of the 12 of those 41 that have actually come back to life. However, this is the only one that has produced a ripe fig and most of the others don't even have any green figs so it is getting really late to expect that they will. This is a very good fig with hints of berry and just sweet enough for me. No seed crunch and just a hint of figginess. It also has just the slightest tartness. It also survived four days of rain and is not watered down at all. I am giving it a 9 for all the good things and for the continued improvement it makes.
Looks beautiful, Mike. I'm glad some of those 41 rebounded. Let me know what else you lost, if you're looking for some to replace. (email is best). Meanwhile, congrats on a very nice looking Black Greek!Mike central NY state, zone 5a
Mike, thank you for your comments and your offer. I will send you an email.
Hi Mike-Just curious....your 'Black Greek'...is it also known as "Chios C" / "Aboukounis Black"-Belleclare? If not too much trouble could you please post a few photos of the leaves and your tree? Was this a breba or main-crop fig? Thanks,Frank
Frank, here is the info you asked for with the exception of the "Chios C" / "Aboukounis Black"-Beleclare. Mine came from mnedelcu and I will ask.
Always nice to hear good news.Hope more of your figs will recover.
Looks and sounds great Mike. Sounds like a keeper good taste and apparently hardy to.
Mike-Thanks so much for the photos of your tree. I wish you continued good luck with this survivor of the '13-'14 winter. I think this 'Black Greek' variety is a good fig to watch. It looks like a keeper.Again, thanks for the pictures. They helped.Frank
Woohoo! Glad to see it doing so well, and it looks like you'll get a chance to enjoy several more figs from it!
Glad the plant survived and thriving.
This is an encouraging endorsement. I got this variety this year, and it wanted to put out fruit already. Looks like a productive one.
Frank, I have them both, don't think they are the same fig. Will post pictures of them when ripe.
Ed-Thanks for this latest information. I was confused, but now, I ain't.Check your PM.Frank
Nice looking fig and great reward for an exercise in patience
Frank, sorry I did not answer one of your questions. This fig is a breba.
Glad to hear your trees are rebounding. I got a few black greek cuttings from Marius this past winter and they are growing strong. Thanks for the review, I have something to look forward too.
Mike...Thanks. Please update with photos of main-crop when the time comes. Good luck.Frank
Frank,I have a Dark Greek which could be the same as the Black Greek Mike has.I think there may be a connection between the two. Not 100%sure though.I had given away a bunch of little plants and cuttings and at the time were named Black Greek but my source corrected me and said it was Dark Greek. With all the trading going around you never know but thought I would throw it out there.I am currently air layering one now and plan on cutting it in about two weeks. You have expressed some interest in this fig and if you are interested I'd be happy to put your name on it.Just say it and it's yours.Darn good fig I might add. One of my favorites.
Rafed-Many thanks for the offer.Check your PM.Frank
Frank,Nothing yet. Want to send it again?
I got my first figs from this one last year and I think this is one to watch. Haven't gotten any brebas but if the main crop figs are as good as they were last year I'll add another one to my collection.
I got two of these cuttings as a bonus with a Florea auction I won from Marius. I sent one to a forum friend who had it on his wishlist and rooted the other. It's a vigorous grower. Can't wait until it starts producing. Thanks for the pictures, Mike!
This is one of my in-ground varieties and it's doing very well. It died back over the winter but is currently about 5' tall and loaded with figs. Hoping they'll ripen around September.
FiggyFrank, I just put mine in ground also and I will be interested to see how it fairs here also.
Looks great Mike. i am glad your tree came back to life.now this is breba but does your tree have main fruits that have formed for the season?best of luck with the rest.
