As I picked off a massive black jack fig, I wondered how good could it be, if it's a relative to the Brown Turkey? Well what a surprise! I was impressed by the sweetness 8/10 and berry flavor! Tasted way better than the Turkeys, I sometimes get at Trader Joe's. Only vice was the big eye. I'm glad I didn't toss her out, she's a definite keeper!

Yes, per UCD tests, Black Jack is genetically related to Brown Turkey. Without seeing the skin on this one, can't say what this is definitively - what is your source? Unless this was picked before fully ripe, based on the inside, this actually looks like a Brown Turkey. Black Jack is darker on the inside. If you look closely, this Black Jack does too. A hollow core is not restricted to BT though. More than a few other varietals completely different from BT have them.

Black Jack figs are good for my climate but you have to pick them when all of the moons and stars line up.  To me, I see them as dwarf Brown Turkey trees with extra large figs.  This year mine were good and the breba were excellent.  I like that the tree is a dwarf.  Jason the one you sent me 2 years ago is doing great!  To me, they are the same tree as Black Spanish.  I have both and both are extremely hardy!  Both are cousins to the Brown Turkey. 

Jason, I wish you could taste the Brown Turkey figs at UC Davis this year.  Oh my gosh, they were excellent and huge!  They would totally change you mind about them and the Callie BT was every better!  Both were jet black.  I kid you not!  I want to see how both Black Jack and Black SPanish figs taste fertilized by the wasp for my area.  I requested cutting and plan on experimenting with grafting next year with my brown turkey trees.
