Black Lebanese?

I saw Black Lebanese up for sale on ebay.  I also couldn't find much info on it.  Someone said they thought it was the same as Souadi.  I am not doubting the legitimacy of the Black Lebanese variety (just because I haven't heard of it), just curious if anyone could confirm its taste, hardiness, or even a picture of the fruit itself.

Here's one post I found...maybe they are the seller?

Thanks. I saw that, but I was hoping to see what a ripened fruit would look like.

Gotcha, wasn't trying to be Capt. Obvious, sorry!\

Healthy looking plant, never seen that type before in any fig circles. There was a post of a member from Lebanon stating he is rooting them there, maybe we can see a mature tree and fruit. Not the first time a unique one has been found in the old world!

So the Ebay auction is from a friend of mine. He (and Bass) got cuttings from me. That happened here....

I don't believe that this is the same fig as Souadi but only Bass can confirm this. He has both....unless the cuttings/ tree that he got from me is no longer alive.

My details are....

Sept. 2009 I received cuttings from a man in southern California. He told me that they are from a tree in his yard. The tree grew from a cutting that was brought back from a neighbor who returned from a trip to Lebanon. I named this one myself.

The tree is a slow grower for me and I have never really been able to trim anything more to trade. I'm glad I sent out some of the original cuttings when I got them. I have not payed much attention to it and don't believe that I have been able to get fully ripe fruits. Not a surprise, I grow all my figs in pots here in WI. Maybe this year I'll give my figs some organic fertilizer.

Thank you for clarifying this. Looks like an interesting fig.

Yes, thanks Little John.  It seems to have stayed a secret for a long time.  I appreciate the information on it.

Nice to "see" you again, Little John!

I was just referred to this thread.  I'm the one that bid high enough to win the auction mentioned in post #1, I believe (though the seller called it Lebanese Black, I don't recall seeing an auction for Black Lebanese).  Here is the auction: http://www.ebay.com/itm/151262841030  The seller had told me he had got the cuttings from Little John and also said it had not fruited for him yet but he's in Wisconsin.

Bass lost his so I'll be sending him one.  This has been a good grower for me and I potted one up into a 5 gallon pot today, 31 days after I stuck the cuttings into 3" square x 8" tall mini-treepots with ProMix HP (no rooting hormone used).  I'm hoping for it to fruit for me this year!

Congratulations!

i'm serious... i'm going to try sticking a cutting in soil mix thing once again.. have few Vernino cuttings hanging around the house...

Pete, it's easy and it works well for me.  Stick with ProMix HP.

All four of these cuttings grew well for me.  I had two potted up and sent one to Bass today.  I was thinking about selling the fourth one but then noticed it had a different (pretty!) leaf form.  Gotta see if any others end up looking like this! :)

Hey Pete, best way to do it is fill the pot 3/4 full of good potting soil. Lay the cutting sideways, and cover with 1 - 1 1/2 in of same soil. Just water when dry. Right now I am hitting about 75% in the last month with this method. And funny thing, I was at 50% a few days ago, then suddenly a few more cuttings sprouted! I am going to keep the others all summer in hope that they start late too.

I know this method does not give the early season extra growth many up north want, but it is so easy and successful that I will never start cuttings inside again!

As soon as I have time and a dry day I will post pics of my outdoor "carefree" cuttings.
