Black Madeira

I picked my one and only Black Madeira. It was ok, but could have been better with a few more days at 70 degrees. Problem is, those days are long gone and there calling for wet snow. So I picked it. It was still a very good fig. Very similar to Figo Preto, but as was written, Preto seems to need much less time to ripen.

I wonder what figs really fall into this elite category.

Forgot to add photos.  Both are from my 1 year old trees.

Very nice figs and photos, thanks for sharing.

Thanks for sharing!  I think they both could have used just a little more time, but maybe it was just too late in the season for them up where you are.  Looking forward to see what they do for you next year! :)

I don't know, The Preto tasted like no other fig I've tasted before.....  Three weeks ago we were still pretty warm here.  Next year with more size and a normal summer?  I can't wait.

Dan,
Congrats on getting some nice looking figs.  I know what you mean about running out of ripening weather... wishing we'd have more of this good autumn sun.  (But we too are expecting it to end here, farther east but at a similar latitude to yours).  I can't complain though... the past three weeks here have been beautiful, though chilly nights and a couple of strong rains recently too.  Fingers crossed for that normal summer you mentioned, but even without that it seems a good bet that with more size your trees will produce more and even better figs.  Good luck and congrats!

Same here. I have yet to have a ripe preto, but I have some on small trees that just won't budge. It's still warm here. Last week in the 80s, this week predicted at about 70 every day. I dunno. This might be getting too cool to have a ripe fruit with much good flavor.

I also can hardly wait till next year when my trees will be larger and I hopefully get more fruit, both from preto, and others.
