Well, first of all this is the first time this tree has fruited in three years. Next, why is it so early? The fig was not below a leaf so I can only assume it is not a breba (see pic). As usual it is a medium size fig and last but not least, I had to pic it a day early since I was leaving town. Even so it was sweet, little jammy and berry flavored. I give it a 9.

Such a nice looking fig.  My Figo Preto is on its 2nd year and has 12 figs on it.  I haven't tasted BM but hope it's as similar as people say.

Elin, it is very productive only it is "normally" a very late fig to ripen, meaning late next month or even October here.

I have some random cuttings from Portugal ... Hopefully some cuttings will root and fruit dark - the trees had no ripe fruit at that time but where loaded with beautiful growing fruits... That would be great !

Elin, I imagine in your zone it would be very productive as it requires more heat units than most.  My tree is now in it's 4th year in pot, will get roughly 75-100 figs from it, it is in 30 gallon and needs to be repotted so it got stunted this year so far but I believe it will get more productive for me as time goes on.

Good to see a productive Black Madeira so close. Is yours in ground? Are you fertilizing? Any best practices or lessons learned to share?

Jd, I have one in ground and two others in 15 gallon pots. I am using water soluble
20-20-20 @ 1 tblsp per 2 gallons of water. I fertilize all potted and in ground the same
now. I was not getting the growth I thought I should before using this every other week.
As for BM, I try not to get the leaves wet no more than I have to so as to help prevent
rust. It is very prone to rust here.

Per the advice from Wills, I am trialing a 2x weekly application of ammonium sulfate (1 tsp/gallon of water) on a few trees with good results. Thanks Wills.

JD, this fig is from potted plant. I am using Jacks Classic, previously known as Peters for many years. It
has some micro nutrients. I get it from Amazon 1.5 lbs and you can also get larger amounts. Not sure if the
other varieties has the micro's. Every other weeks applications.

Hi, great looking fig. I also have a Black Madeira and is looking great. It's a year old and was wondering if it would fruit next year? Fingers crossed:) Mine has large leafs.
