Black Madeira cuttings

Does anyone have a few cuttings or small plants of Black Madeira to spare for a newbie?

all my BMs are too small for cuttings this year. maybe next fall or year after it will have some good branches to share. mean while, there is UCD. also in Feb., jon might have some for sale.

BM has been around for awhile, i'm sure someone will have some.

Thanks Pete. How does UCD work? Must you eventually submit research findings.

i placed the order before what seems like some changes that was made in process. so not sure about the exact detail. all that needs to be done is some shipping account like Fedex or UPS. as to your purpose, write down the truth. "testing different cultivar of figs in my location Seeknk, MA".

i tried to summit my findings and also tried to provide cuttings from my small number of tree that they do not have. i never heard back from them.

It's too late this year for UC Davis, but I've received cuttings 3 years straight from them, and never had to submit any reports.  I'd be happy to, but what they would want would probably be too deep for my shallow mind!

It's a great program!  I have Black Madeira on order with them for spring, and I hope they send it along with my other cuttings in March or April.  Maybe they are sending earlier this year, but it seems they usually arrive in April.

I'm sure someone will step up.  A large tree provides many cuttings, but a lot of us have one year old trees, and they are too small for cuttings.

Black Madeira is very, very late here. One of the last to bear ripe figs (Oct-Nov). It requires a lot of heat and a long, long season, like Col de Dame.

i heard same thing about Paradiso Gene. first year, Paradiso Gene didn't give figs till end of Oct./early Nov. but this year, i had them by mid July. with Black Madeira, i saw figs on them by June on cuttings rooted this year. i'm thinking by late Sept./mid Oct. i'll see Black Madeira ripen here. but will have to see.

That may turn out to be true, maybe they will begin to ripen earlier. It is only about the 3rd year for these trees. Now, for good ripening here, they really want full sun and a long season. Col de Dame even more than Black Madeira.

i'll make sure they stay on the front lawn where it's facing south. gets sun all day long there.

Mine ripened the first year here in October, but I think it will be earlier next year, maybe at the earliest half september.  Even in October the taste was very sweet.
