Rafael,
IMO they are the same fruit, may be with some very light mutations and/or characteristics as a result of pollination.
Violeta traveled with the first settlers and monks to the three near Atlantic archipelagos back in the 14th and 15th centuries - Madeira / Açores and Canarias. Later, may have landed in California by the hand of immigrants from Madeira. There were some re-baptisms along the way but it can still be seen on all those archipelagos with different names
JoF,
Yes, you can hope, better, you will get some Violeta (just one 't') cuttings as soon as they go asleep and I cut them early next year.I shall be very happy to see this variety growing in Tunisia. The climate around Sousse is very similar to the land where Violeta comes from.
The fruit shown on the above pictures, was pollinated . I believe that in Tunisia this is not a problem although it would ripe nicely even without it.
I know Sousse from the many visits paid to the Gafsa mines back in the early 80's, driving from Tunis all the way south visiting my customers.
Thank you very much for your offer for Tunisian cuttings.. that's very kind of you. Shall send you a PM soon.
