Black Madeira on the right, Madeira Island Black on the left. Clearly they needed a day or 2 more, (especially Madeira Island Black)  but one was already pecked. Still delicious.

Nice, they look delicious.

How much of a head start, if any, do you give them?

They did not get a head start this year, probably due to more sun. I live on a corner property. There use to be 3 large trees on the east side along the curb and 3 large trees on the south side along the curb. About 7 months ago the town cut them down and replaced them with babies. I never had so much sun. I grew gagoots along the east side fence and melons/cucumbers along the south side fence.

Me. Cuttings originated in Portugal. I still haven't decided if they are the same, I'm leaning towards different but very similar

KK - I've been wondering if people were just calling them all Black Madeira. I've made sure I'm calling mine Madeira Island Black as you sold it to me. It's heavenly.
Laura

Leaves have a noticeable difference. mIB fingers go straight up compared to BM. Figs are darker too on BM. Both look good don't get me wrong lol.

Both look super....

KK,
Nice pics. I purchased an MIB from you. It is one of my fastest growing trees given its initial size.

Which ripens sooner? Or are they roughly at the same time? How does Figo Preto compare to the above figs?

Here are some images of my Madeira Island Black fruit. I started mine from cuttings I obtained from KK. My plants are on their second growing season and the fruit is excellent for me. The first year fruit wasn't as good as it is now. It's definitely a keeper for me. One other thing worth mentioning is that my in ground tree survived temperatures down to the lower twenties its first winter with no dieback.

Hey KK, Thanks a lot for the Beautiful Figs and Photos and also the information on the difference between these two. : )

Interesting to see the difference. Thanks for showing kk.

Am I the only one who sees exactly the same kind of fig: one more ripe than the other?
I see far more variation between figs I harvest from the same tree. Even leaves vary much more even on the same branch!
