Black Madeira & Smith Cuttings?

Hi all,

I'm looking to purchase some cuttings (or bare root tree) of Black Madeira and Smith, but I haven't had any luck finding a source.  Can anyone point me in the right direction, or, does anyone have some they would like to sell?

Thanks so much!

I have seen some on ebay, did you check

I got mine (madeira) from UC.Davis.. only source that I know.

Smith is sold by a couple of nurseries in Louisiana and Florida. Just Fruits & Exotics, where I got mine, is sold out until next September. Good luck!

Next UCDavis cuttings for black madeira will not ship until spring 2015. Ebay or member cuttings are your best bet here.

Oye! Thanks for the input... Now I just gotta find some members who wanna help me out :)

Still chasing Black Madeira... Who wants some extra Black Friday cash??? Just a few cuttings is all... :)

rafaelissimmo,

Do you mind expanding on your statement, "Next UCDavis cuttings for Black Madeira will not ship until spring 2015"?
Is this for all UCD cuttings or just BM? Has their poor little tree been stripped bare?

Check ebay for BM. There are some available right now. Search 'fig cuttings'. The last bunch went for a reasonable price. Much less than what I paid last winter.

I can share Smith with you. Check your Personal Messages at top right corner of this page.
Happy Thanksgiving!

something about UCD not sending out to individuals in the future.. not sure if that is true or not. Black Madeira is rather slow growing tree. getting cutting often might not be possible. first yr i order it from USDA/UCD, i didn't get one, next two yrs i did get 1 cutting each. they root fine, and grow fine. very minimal FMV.

my tree won't have cuttings till maybe fall of 2014.. possibly 2015. kept 2 trees and gave others away. save one i'm keeping for another member for the spring.

edit: it needs a lot of heat. taste of my tree, being only 2 yrs old and putting on the figs for the first time, was not optimum. it put on the figs late, and weather was not hot enough this yr. maybe next yr, it will improve. but this tree is very productive. put on lot of figs. also testing I-258, and Figo Preto to see how they differ.

The seller on Ebay, KK from our forums, doesn't ship cuttings to California, leaving me out of luck :'(

Leon, thanks again for the offering. Wish I hadn't just bought some.

And just to reiterate, I'm happy to pay eBay prices.... Just need someone willing to take my money :)

The only one I can find on ebay right now is a tree not cuttings and it looks like he mails anywhere..

too many folks gettng nabbed by g-man on sending fig cuttings to place that's not allowed.
