Black Madeira Tree #2 8-17-14 UPDATED

This fig is from a second tree this year and it is off the chart good. The skin is a little thick, quiet chewy with its own sweetness. The inside is a sweet berry taste that you could not ask to taste any better. This fig is a 10+. OK, we had a big thunderstorm bearing down on us, so I went and picked another 12-15 figs and this was one of them. Probably a day early and I only give this one a 10. LOL
Changed the pics also. Enjoy

Great report though!

Dead ripe. Nice work Mike.

Congratulations!  Do you have a St Rita to compare it to?

Looks good as always, Mike

Bob, I do but it will not fruit until next year.

Are we thinking there is a relationship with BM and St. Rita??

I tried my StRita this year and it was good but the Malta Black, HdA, and Pastiliere grown in the same conditions were better.

Waynea, get your mind out of the gutter  :)

St Rita's my personal best fig and I haven't tried a Black Madeira yet so I was wondering what Mike thought.  Greenfig's info is interesting but with his wasp pollinated fruits what's better for him might not be better for the rest of us.

Mike: Very nice, thanks for sharing. I am glad that you gave it 10+.

Best,
Tam

10+ wow! Now I really can't wait to try it. Good job Mike!

10+ yea, that looks good!

Okay Bob, let me rephrase, "are you inferring that BM and St. Rita are genetically the same?". How's that? Bob, get your mind out of the gutter :), I almost rephrased it as " does BM and St. Rita share the same genes" but I was afraid I would type jeans by mistake. Nice Bob, real nice. This forum is getting better everyday.

I have lots of BM figs out there, hope I get more than a handful. Where is Global warming when you need it?

Very nice... can't wait until mine start producing.

Here are pics of another I was able to enjoy today. These pics are better than my original above. It was delicious also and still
about a 10. IMO this fig is in a class by itself. Enjoy

Mike: Nice photos and tasty figs, thanks for sharing.

Best,
Tam

Aloha, Mike.  How long did you have to wait until your tree produced edible figs?  Needless to say, I'm beyond envious. Nice pics, by the way.  Mahalo.

Nate, thanks for looking and commenting. I have three trees.

Tree #1 had about five figs last year to ripen and it has about 35 figs on it this year. It has ripened three so far.It  is a fourth year tree

Tree #2 had no figs last year but has 25 or so this year with only one ripe so far. It is a third year tree.

Tree #3 had no figs last year but has about 10-15 this year with none ripe so far. It is also a third year tree.

Nice informative update, thanks.

Looking really good, Mike

So you're saying that I shouldn't hate my 2 year old tree for not producing?  I really hope I get some next year.

Thanks for sharing Mike another one I have to come up with.

Goss, I could work on you some cuttings this fall. Just remind me. LOL

Great looking pics. Wish I had a 10+. The best I can do is an 8 or 9. Now I'll have to add another one to my list
