Sorry for the fuzzy pic! You get the idea though. This was my first with many more to come! Ive got many branches on all kinds of fruit trees picked out for air layers now. This BM air layer is for a very generous forum member. Fixin to start some more for another forum member. Isnt this fun?!?!

That's fantastic, Rob! How long did it take, from start to potting up? Gary

Good Job!

Thanks, it was right at one month. I could have let it go longer but I was chomping at the bit to pot it up. I did remove most the leafs when I cut it and put it in the shade after potting up. Im watching it close and may remove the remaining 2 large leafs. If it responds well then I will leave it how it is. Loquats, Blueberries and Lychee are next on my air layer list!

Cool. I've done a few figs for the experience of it, and it's not that difficult.

If you do blueberries, let us know how that goes. I'm very interested. :)

It is very easy! The blues should be just as easy but from my past experience rooting cuttings of blues they will need more time than a month to form a decent root ball. Probably more like 2-2.5 months but should be no problem. Im really excited about the Loquat and Lychee though. I have a Loquat from Italy that is only sold here locally and very few have it as far as I know. Its a white fleshed fruit double the size of any loquat around here and suppost to be excellent! I may be able to trade my way to the rest of my wanted fig varieties with air layers from my other trees, now thats cool!

dang it.. i forgot to set air layer again.. i need to get my arse in gear and get on with the program..

Nice, very healthy growth without noticeable FMV. My Black Maderia just went into the ground, so I'm hoping it will start to outgrow the obvious FMV infection. This year I will try more propagation with air layering for my figs, pomegranates and blueberries. My previous attempt on my late Aunt Sarah Mead's unk fig tree was unsuccessful. Fortunately it roots easily with cuttings.

Looks great!  Did you need to use rooting hormone?

Feeling inspired to try air layering on my too tall Celeste.

Good job . Nice and clean b and the FIRST !
The best start for a valuable tree!
Congratulations

OK, here's where I fess up to my failures.  The BM was started as a cutting from UC Davis last Spring.  It is alive, but hasn't grown a bit.

Your air layer is bigger than my tree <g>.

I am jealous.

Rob,
That looks great.  I will have try some air layers this year if we ever get any growth activity on our in ground trees here in the northeast.

Looks awesome Rob, well done.

Congratulations Rob.
I hope this turns out to be a year for trying out lots of new flavors.
You deserve it.

Thanks all! I did use a little bit of clonex for insurance. It's been a learning curve for me with cuttings this year and I think I pretty much have it licked now but this air layer stuff is so easy, a cave man could do it!

Rui, I got most of the cuttings you sent me rooted and potted up. They were doing great! Then my boys left open the gate to my all my plants and my mother in laws seemed to have a fancy for fig cuttings:/ The only one she spared was Coop and probably wouldn't have spared it if I didn't walk out side and see the carnidge. It seemed the fig gods had to make me pay my dues to start off but now I got things going my way! Thanks for all your help!

Sorry, mother in laws DOG!

What's the deal with dogs and sticks?!
Such a weird obsession.
Well, there's always more chances next year. I've planted some of my varieties in ground this year, and I'll be doing some hard pruning to prepare them for winter wrapping, so you're on my list.
Of the varieties you sent me, the LSU Purple is the only one that hasn't come out of the humidity bin yet.
It was on life support for a while, but I see new leaves forming now.
Can't wait to try these 3 varieties.

Andrew, that BM will thrive for you.
