Black Madiera finally ripening

p

I might actually get to taste a black madiera yet this year! My greenhouse has been keeping my figs thriving, but ripening has been very very slow. Much to my delight though, one of my black madieras decided to cooperate! I'm hoping this week's cold spell doesn't ruin it.

Very nice!  Let us know how it turns out.  =)

Very nice - you are lucky.

I've been waiting for both Figo Preto and CdDB for WEEKS and WEEKS now, and neither still seem to be any closer to ripening. The days are shorter, but it's been very warm and sunny here. In the 80*s most days.

Very beautiful figs, thanks for sharing.

I had one that ripened from my small tree . Not exactly a good year weather wise to be judging it + it's young , but it was still good !
Hope all yours get ripened !!

At least they will get ripe before winter. I'm still waiting on the 3 hanging on my small BM i got from KK a few months back. I still might get lucky but they look the same as the day i got the tree in the mail....................fingers crossed.

Very cute fig, thanks for sharing..

I had low expectations of my first black madiera after getting called away for business last week and forgetting to tell my wife to water it. I came home to find the figs and leaves all shriveled up. Just the same I figured I would try it.

Boy I was glad I did! The skin was thick likely due to the cold temps here in PA. The texture was a bit off due to the dehydration, but the flavor was spectacular! It had a heavenly after taste that I can't really explain. It made my Negronne look bad.

Due to the dehydration of the tree and cold temps even in my small greenhouse, I doubt I'll get to try another one this year. (I watered the plant to see if the green figs dehydrate). I can't wait until next year to have a perfectly ripe one! Bringing the tree into the greenhouse should get me an extra month of an early start next year, so hopefully they ripen in September while it's still warm out.

YAYYYY!    I'm happy you got to taste at least one. and this late that's a small miracle.  ..Such a tease, now you must wait until next for the feast.  .
