I had low expectations of my first black madiera after getting called away for business last week and forgetting to tell my wife to water it. I came home to find the figs and leaves all shriveled up. Just the same I figured I would try it.
Boy I was glad I did! The skin was thick likely due to the cold temps here in PA. The texture was a bit off due to the dehydration, but the flavor was spectacular! It had a heavenly after taste that I can't really explain. It made my Negronne look bad.
Due to the dehydration of the tree and cold temps even in my small greenhouse, I doubt I'll get to try another one this year. (I watered the plant to see if the green figs dehydrate). I can't wait until next year to have a perfectly ripe one! Bringing the tree into the greenhouse should get me an extra month of an early start next year, so hopefully they ripen in September while it's still warm out.
