Black Maltese

Can anyone tell me, please, if Black Maltese is synonym for something else?

Either Maltese falcon or Maltese beauty would be a good starting point

I thought as much, just wasn't sure. Thank you.

Black Malta is not the same as Maltese Falcon or Maltese Beauty.  Since the last 2 carry a high sale value it's not likely either would have their name changed to something else.  Both were found on the Isle of Malta and brought to the US by George, who used to frequent this forum.  That happened long before there was any law against it.

I guess that you are referring to the 'Malta Black' fig variety.

This fig can be back traced from (now closed) BelleClare nursery (Long Island, NY).
One claim made by Chris, was that it was a (possible) grandparent of the famous Celeste fig ...

[Edit] From my last saved old BelleClare fig list:
(BC#)35. MALTA BLACK (Grandparent to Celeste) (a) medium, black, dark red center, sweet (2 crops)

If it is the 'Malta Black' that would be excellent because I have a few of them. Now I'll have to get the Maltese Falcon/Beauty lol.

There is also a Malta Black sold on ebay from Malta and from what i have heard from people who have both it and the Malta Black (BC) they are different.

OK, thank you.

Ditto to what George said.  It's a very hardy and prolific tree.  No winterization needed in my climate.
